The Ebay Price Guide, What Sells for What (in Every Category!)

Creator: Julia L. Wilkinson | 2006

Publisher: No Starch Pr

About this book
Every eBayer knows that setting prices and deciding how much to bid is a delicate art. While there are many guides to pricing for specific collectibles and the like, this is the first reference to help you determine how much to bid or how much to pay on eBay for a wide array of items. "The eBay Price Guide" is filled with exhaustive lists of selling prices for items ranging from rare books and sports memorabilia to computer parts and video games, covering nearly every eBay niche and the most popular subcategories. Introductions to each category offer helpful tips and advice that you'll find invaluable on their own. But not only that, the version of the DeepAnalysis software included on the CD-ROM will have you sifting through even more pricing data from a vast amount of eBay auctions so that you can better evaluate the eBay market, predict how various items will sell, and find out where the deals are. You'll learn that you can sell Abbot & Costello's Frankenstein on 16 mm film or a hospital bottle from the Civil War for just over $700, but for about a buck you can get an amber glass medicine jar or The Bride of Frankenstein on 8 mm film. If you're an eBay seller, "The eBay Price Guide" will help you to anticipate how much an item will sell for. If you're a buyer, you be able to see at a glance which categories tend to be overpriced, where to find the best bargains, and how to bid so that you're more likely to get what you want. Whether you're selling cell phones, a pair of used Levi's, or grandma's ancient (and dusty) vase, you'll find this book and software kit indispensable in your quest to set or get the right price on eBay. The companion CD contains ademo version of HammerTap's DeepAnalysis auction research software, which sorts through licensed eBay data and statistics for all eBay market sectors to reveal market trends so sellers can develop strategies for success. The CD also includes The eBay Appetizer, an eBooklet that describes how to get started on eBay, as well as The Seller's Guide and The Auction Accelerator, with lessons from a seasoned Internet business coach. Users will receive 20 percent off their first three months' subscription to DeepAnalysis as well.

Floating Off the Page, The Best Stories from The Wall Street Journal's "Middle Column"

About this book
This is a sparkling anthology of the best of The Wall Street Journal's "middle column" features that have appeared regularly on Page One of The Wall Street Journal for the past fifty years. The "A-hed"-so called because of its headline style-has evolved into an icon of American feature writing, its major charm being the ability to tell a story with wit and whimsy in 1,500 words or less. It's often a story a reader unfamiliar with the Journal wouldn't expect to find in such an august publication. Indeed, the bit of high-profile real estate that it occupies once held a daily tip sheet on the stock market. But the Journal's legendary managing editor, Barney Kilgore, decided one day that what the Journal's harried business readers really needed was a tonic or a diversion-a story that in his words, "floated off the page each day" and would be "the kind of story you don't expect to read in The Wall Street Journal." That explains why readers recently were treated to a piece on people who now freeze-dry their pets, and why a few years ago they read about the not-uncontroversial efforts to translate the Bible into Klingon. Those are but two examples of stories that actually appear in this unique and fascinating anthology.

    Great Quality Instrument!!

I have been playing violin for three years now and I felt it was time to take the plunge into the electric violin world. I was also looking for something relatively inexpensive since my main violin is on the higher end. This was the perfect choice.Sound - Try as it might, it just can't replicate the sound of an acoustic violin (which I wasn't looking for anyway). It can get pretty close though and all in all the sound is nice. The pickup is good, not the best quality but it does its job pretty well. As for being silent, it is quieter than an acoustic with a mute, but not completely silent.Construction/Look - The body is nice and solid unlike some of the cheap online instruments you can get. The finish is well done and the ebony pieces with mother of pearl inlays look rather nice. The inlays fall flush too, nothing sticking out at all. The pegs don't slip at all. The only thing I could find wrong with the construction was the bridge. It was a bit too high but... 5/5 Mike - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) Perfect Violin for Me!

So, I haven't played the violin since grade school. And I rent a room in a house, so I was wanted a violin that would be quiet. So, I choose this one... Alas, it's not really "quiet" or silent (even with a mute). Its "quieter" than an acoustic. But still, due to the vibrations, it still gives off its own sound.I was looking for a inexpensive violin. But the other ones I checked out, looked like crap. They had a plastic body, which I am not into.I love the fact that this Cecilio has a wooden body with the mother of earl details. It actually looks much nicer in person, than the pictures. Smells great too (but then I love the smell of fresh cute wood and rosin... call me crazy). And the sound is great (to me anyways, as a beginner). And since it is new, I know that in a few years the sound will mature. (hence another reason I wanted a violin with a wooden body, not plastic).Buying this violin was a big step for me. Since, Electric violins are... 5/5 Latoya M Michel (Seattle, WA United States) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) Totally AMAZING! But I have a question about the bridge...

I love this violin so much, it sounds great and looks great. I'm not rating the bow. It's a typical cheap bow but it works just fine. My only issue with this thing has to do with the bridge. It is so oddly shaped... It slants upward, making the G string MUCH higher than the E. What I'm used to is a perfect arch for a bridge. The G and E are even, and the D and A are even, both slightly higher than the G and E. From what I understand, this gives a better ability to switch strings. I believe it. My acoustic violin is very easily played, perfect arch, and I love it. This electric I love also, but it's sooo hard not to hit the G string while playing the D, It just feels weird. I'm either gonna shave it down or have it replaced. Bridges only costs a few bucks, that's why I'm giving this instrument a 5 star. I do wonder though if there are any advantages to this Bridge design? Thanks in advance. As for the rest of it, totally amazing!!! It's surprising, the headphones feel really... 5/5 Jessica Hurd "Jessica Hurd" - See all my reviews, January 4, 2011

Sounded bad, looked bad, and was hard to play

    0 1/5 J. Adams - See all my reviews, January 19, 2011

    Relieved and impressed

After reading some of the other reviews, I was cautiously optimistic that I would get the cello I wanted with Cecilio. I'm a beginner, so I took it straight to the shop to have the bridge placed and get higher quality strings put on it. When it was done, I promptly fell in love with it. It is much louder and more clear and resonant than my older Cremona, and it is truly beautiful to look at. It seems very well constructed, although the guy at the shop seemed to doubt that the finger board is solid ebony, rather than stained rosewood. He assures me that the body is solid birch/maple rather than laminated, so that much at least is confirmed. The fine tuners on mine aren't nickle as described either, rather gold plated but that doesn't matter so much to me. Over all, the cello seems to be as described, and is lovely. The bow is exactly as described, very nice. When you figure that for $999.99 you get not only the cello, but a very nice hard case, a carry bag and a stand with this... 5/5 Amazon Customer - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) Not too bad, but needs real strings

I got mine from a guy selling it because it was damaged in shipping. It had a crack on the top running the full length of the cello. I repaired the crack and re-set the sound post. I had to adjust the string height at the nut, and on the bridge because it was way too high from the factory. I then got rid of the awful strings that came with it. If you buy this, just plan on taking the factory strings off and chucking them in the trash. I put on the D'Addario Kaplan A and D, and the Helicore G and C. That made it sound much, much better. By the way, this combination of strings is very well matched, and they have a good tone. After a few years, the end of the fingerboard warped up slightly under the A string. Since it was real ebony, and not painted over rosewood, I just sanded it back down to the correct contour, and finished it with linseed oil. You can't even tell it was worked on. Although you can still see my poor glue job on the aforementioned crack.I... 4/5 JohnAndrews - See all my reviews This review is from: Cecilio CCO-600 Ebony Fitted Hand Oil-Rubbed Highly Flamed Solid Wood Cello, Size 4/4 (Full Size) (Electronics) I got mine from a guy selling it because it was damaged in shipping.
