The Ebay Price Guide, What Sells for What (in Every Category!)

Creator: Julia L. Wilkinson | 2006

Publisher: No Starch Pr

About this book
Every eBayer knows that setting prices and deciding how much to bid is a delicate art. While there are many guides to pricing for specific collectibles and the like, this is the first reference to help you determine how much to bid or how much to pay on eBay for a wide array of items. "The eBay Price Guide" is filled with exhaustive lists of selling prices for items ranging from rare books and sports memorabilia to computer parts and video games, covering nearly every eBay niche and the most popular subcategories. Introductions to each category offer helpful tips and advice that you'll find invaluable on their own. But not only that, the version of the DeepAnalysis software included on the CD-ROM will have you sifting through even more pricing data from a vast amount of eBay auctions so that you can better evaluate the eBay market, predict how various items will sell, and find out where the deals are. You'll learn that you can sell Abbot & Costello's Frankenstein on 16 mm film or a hospital bottle from the Civil War for just over $700, but for about a buck you can get an amber glass medicine jar or The Bride of Frankenstein on 8 mm film. If you're an eBay seller, "The eBay Price Guide" will help you to anticipate how much an item will sell for. If you're a buyer, you be able to see at a glance which categories tend to be overpriced, where to find the best bargains, and how to bid so that you're more likely to get what you want. Whether you're selling cell phones, a pair of used Levi's, or grandma's ancient (and dusty) vase, you'll find this book and software kit indispensable in your quest to set or get the right price on eBay. The companion CD contains ademo version of HammerTap's DeepAnalysis auction research software, which sorts through licensed eBay data and statistics for all eBay market sectors to reveal market trends so sellers can develop strategies for success. The CD also includes The eBay Appetizer, an eBooklet that describes how to get started on eBay, as well as The Seller's Guide and The Auction Accelerator, with lessons from a seasoned Internet business coach. Users will receive 20 percent off their first three months' subscription to DeepAnalysis as well.

Floating Off the Page, The Best Stories from The Wall Street Journal's "Middle Column"

About this book
This is a sparkling anthology of the best of The Wall Street Journal's "middle column" features that have appeared regularly on Page One of The Wall Street Journal for the past fifty years. The "A-hed"-so called because of its headline style-has evolved into an icon of American feature writing, its major charm being the ability to tell a story with wit and whimsy in 1,500 words or less. It's often a story a reader unfamiliar with the Journal wouldn't expect to find in such an august publication. Indeed, the bit of high-profile real estate that it occupies once held a daily tip sheet on the stock market. But the Journal's legendary managing editor, Barney Kilgore, decided one day that what the Journal's harried business readers really needed was a tonic or a diversion-a story that in his words, "floated off the page each day" and would be "the kind of story you don't expect to read in The Wall Street Journal." That explains why readers recently were treated to a piece on people who now freeze-dry their pets, and why a few years ago they read about the not-uncontroversial efforts to translate the Bible into Klingon. Those are but two examples of stories that actually appear in this unique and fascinating anthology.

Good Quality, but Not as Slim As Photo

Pros:Very light weight, but strong. Good storage inside and music book pocket outside. Nice quality interior. Wheels are sturdy. Lots of handles and straps.Cons:Photo very misleading. This is a bulky case, not nearly as slim as the picture suggests. Back is almost twice as deep as in the ad, which makes since for a full-size cello. Also, case is black, not gray as the photo appears. Check out this link for actual appearance of case. All in all a good buy and good protection for your student's cello. 4/5 William Tay (My Appalachian Mt Studio, USA) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Amazing cello and price!!

Hello everyone! I will start by saying I am a classically trained cellist and have been playing for 11 years now. About 2 years ago, I started dabbling into the world of amplifying a cello and using effects. When I started this journey, I used a Fishman C-100 cello pickup on my acoustic instrument. (I would strongly recommend this pickup for anyone wanting to keep the acoustic instrument for use of amplification. Be sure to buy an acoustic preamp like an L.R. Baggs.)For all you beginners, I must stress that you invest in an acoustic cello. This cello is not the type to learn on or anything like that. I can see how the silent and cheap aspect is appealing, but this instrument truly shines as one meant for amplification and effects. Now, onto my review.I received the cello in the mail just as any other package I have received from Amazon. It comes in a fairly large box, was much lighter than expected, and was well packaged for delivery. Do not worry... 4/5 Knuckles624 - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Affordable Electric Cello!

My oldest son started playing the cello when he was 8 years old. He stuck with it and developed into a State Level Cellist by 8th grade. He has been asking for an electric cello ever since. We set goals, really high goals because what we found at the time was $800.00 or more. Going into his 11th grade year, he mentioned that he found an electric cello and asked if we would pay half if he saved up.He has been playing for 9 years and is a teaching assistant for level 1 and level 2 cello classes so he knows his instrument. I would not think this is a starter instrument, even though the price is low. We put the order in and within 30 minutes of receiving it, he had it put together and tuned. We did not have the problems other reviewers did with the fine tuners nor the pegs/peg box.Our son has been playing it just as often as his acoustic cello. So it has doubled his practice time.Final verdict: Highly recommended, but this is not a starter instrument. 5/5 J. Edward E. Aban - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) You get what you paid for, which is a cheap electric cello.

Background, I'm a beginner cello player, self taught but I had a year of violin and double bass in college. I made a project of a terrible eBay violin almost a decade ago and in the process learned to do a lot of my own repairs (replaced everything but the body and had a tolerable instrument at the end. Sadly, this is relevant to this review). Straight up: if you are not comfortable restringing your own instrument- this is not the instrument for you. Luckily it's not terribly difficult to learn to do via the Internet. This is a beginners instrument.I purchased a Cecilio cello (acoustic, not the lowest quality- but only one step up) several months ago and have really enjoyed it, so when I wanted to make an electric cello purchase it wasn't a hard decision to go with another Cecilio purchase. Things to know:The good1) It's pretty. The black is a metallic black with a tiny amount of sparkle to it.2) There's a fold out chest bar that helps simulate the... 1/5 Alan S. Top Notch Guitar Humidifier

I have the Oasis in-case model, it works superbly well. I monitored the humidity with a in-case hydrometer for several weeks, the Oasis keeps the humidity at about 10% higher than the actual room level (if the room is at 39% humidity, the humidity inside the guitar case stays steady at 49%). Of course, the humidity levels will depend on how dry your local climate is. The humidifier has crystals that swell up with water and maintain the moisture much longer that the average guitar humidifier. After the initial fill it took a good two weeks before adding more distilled water. What's cool is that once the humidifier begins to dry it shrivels up, so it's obvious when more water is needed. The in-case model has a magnetic strip and metal clip that fits nicely on the side of the case, no problems at all with leakage, this system is very well designed and extremely highly quality. I highly recommend it for fine jazz archtop and classical guitars. Dear Oasis, thank you for your innovative... 5/5 Achilles "careerwriter" (Washington, DC) - See all my reviews This review is from: Case Humidifier I have the Oasis in-case model, it works superbly well. A Great Little Humidifier!

I have three of these, one for each of my instruments. I love them because they fit easily into the case and it's so easy to see when it's time to add more water (they shrivel up as the water evaporates). I also have one for my mandolin, which is a harder instrument to find humidifiers for because it is so small and, unlike guitars, has no large round sound hole. The tube has a magnet inside to attach to a little metal clamp (included) that's supposed to slide onto the edge of the guitar case. I don't use it though because my cases, which are standard "hard-shell" cases, are too thick for the little clamp. I just leave them either in the "head" section of the case or in that little extra space where the neck attaches to the guitar body. I find I'm filling it about once a week, but I live in a desert where it's REALLY dry.Cautions: You do have to make sure to keep water in it. I let one get too dry once and it shriveled up and became stuck together and stiff. I thought... 5/5 Janice Hernandez "Arizona Artist" - See all my reviews, January 21, 2011

    Surprised

Very easy to use and surprisingly effective. Needs to be checked and refilled every 2-3 days, but keeps the humidity level in my case at a very steady 47%. Great product, awesome value. 5/5 Samuel J. Myers (Nebraska, USA) - See all my reviews, March 29, 2010

    Great Investment!

Hi All,For a cellist who wants to be able to play in an apartment (wife sleeping in the next room, landlord lives downstairs) this is a must. I've researched several different makers- Ned Steinberger, Epoch, Vector and Bridge, and selected the Yamaha Svc 110 for a few reasons...1st- The sound parallels or exceeds that of the other makers.2nd- The shape is classically functional- nothing bizarre and acoustic geometry is intact, making it easy to transition back and forth from my acoustic.3rd- Made from exceptional quality materials- a very solid instrument.4th- The sound is amazing! Did I already mention that? The only drawback is the stock bridge which is flatter than usual. If you buy an SVC 110, just plan on visiting your local luthier and buying a proper bridge. Other than that, the purchase that I've saved up for over a year for, exceeds my expectations.-cj 5/5 userzero (Berkeley, CA.) - See all my reviews Hi All,For a cellist who wants to be able to play in an apartment (wife sleeping in the next room, landlord lives downstairs) this is a must.
