    The Best Strings...

0 5/5 Uncle Meat (Southeastern PA, USA) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: D'Addario EXL170TP Nickel Wound Bass Guitar Strings, Light, 45-100, 2 Sets, Long Scale (Electronics) Simply put, these are the best strings at the lowest price. I've been playing electric bass for over 35 years and these are the brand I always come back to. I've tried Dr. Bass, Rotosounds, Fender, Markleys, etc. with no noticeable difference or improvement. D'Addarios sound great and last a long time. You can usually find them in multi-packs and/or on sale so it doesn't hurt to change them more often. This is one example where use don't get what you pay for, your get more! They come in many different lengths and gauges, so make sure you buy the correct set for your instrument. If you select a different gauge, don't forget that you may have to make adjustments to the intonation, string height, and/or neck relief on your bass or guitar. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , January 7, 2011

This review is from: D'Addario EXL165TP Nickel Wound Bass Guitar Strings, Custom Light, 45-105, 2 Sets, Long Scale (Electronics) I've been using D'Addario strings for ages. Both on my basses, and my guitars. These bass strings are comfortable enough to play, even on the longer 3 hour+ gigs. They sound nice and bright. But the main thing is they last a long time. They retain their tuning and sound for ages which is good news for the struggling muso. Plus, who wants to keep changing their strings all the time? Not me! I don't have a guitar tech like the stars do. Or the money!I have tried many different brands over the years but always come back toDÁddario for their great performance and longevity.Highly Recommended 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , February 17, 2012

    Unbelievable Strings

I purchased a set of 4 for my bass in 1990. It was just a old Fender Pbass with stock pickups. The bass imediatly had a deeper sound and nicer feel. The strings rang longer and stayed in tune for outstanding periods of time. I had the medium-lights. Now for the pure comedy. The strings outlasted my bass. Yes that is right... the strings were still in good condition and still holding their tone for an entire gig in Jan 2006. 1 set of these lasted me 16years. My Pbass broke just beneath the neck in the body and I am finally going to give up the ghost and buy another set of strings for a bass... There is imediatly no doubt in my mind as to which set to buy. I went through 5 sets of strings in 3 years due to them shredding near joints and then these lasted me 16 YEARS... Value.. Sound... Tone... Tunning... I had bandmates tell me to replace my strings since they knew how old they were and then I would hand my bass over and say play.. then they would say.. um nevermind.. by God... 5/5 Mac75 "Cp" (Troy MI) - See all my reviews This review is from: Dean Markley Blue Steel 4-String ML 2674 Bass Guitar Strings (.045-.105) (Electronics) I purchased a set of 4 for my bass in 1990. Best sounding, playing strings I have found for my Rickenbacker 4003!

I own 10 bass guitars and use a variety of DR string models on all of them. One of my favorite DR sets is their Sunbeams, which I use on all of my short scale basses. I was looking for something with a coating to try on my 4003 and had read good things about these Black Beauty strings which I discovered are basically coated Sunbeams, just like the other DR coated strings like the Red Devils!Prior to swtitching over to these I had been running with DR Lo-Riders on my 4003 which I also use on my Fender Jazz Basses. Contrary to the nice top end bite I get from these on my 62 and 73 Jazz, I just wasn't getting the classic RIC tone I wanted out of the 4003 with LO-Riders installed, so this is why I decided to give these a try.I had been running with DR Red Devils on my Fender Jaguar and my Gretch DuoJet for a long time so I already knew that these coated DRs have a great tone, reduced fret clatter and easy on the fingers to boot, so I already knew there was a... 5/5 The Resident Gourmet (California) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Ernie Ball 2831 Power Slinky Nickel Wound Bass Set (55 - 110) (Electronics) The first thing I'd like to say about the strings to any potential buyer is to note the 4 numbers on the front. Basically, Ernie Ball took 4 strings from a 5-string bass and left out the G string. They take some getting used to if you've never played with strings of this size, but I will say I will never play with any other strings again other than trying out basses in shop. I love these strings. Love these strings. Great price, great tone, and long lasting.

First off, I want to say that I am a finger player, I play in tunings from E standard to B standard but D standard mostly. I do not use a pick (may matter to the pick players considering these strings) and I have been playing bass for about 8 or 9 years and have tried a great variety of strings out there. D'addarios, GHS, DR, Rotosound, Dean Markley, so on and so forth. When I first started playing bass I wanted to try out a lot of strings just to find the perfect sound for me. I am a metal bass player mainly. I also play classic rock, blues, whatever. ANYWAYS, I recently bought a Schecter Stilleto Studio 5 bass. It came loaded with regular slinkys and I was super impressed. Before then I was a DR guy. They had awesome tone but didn't last as long as I needed. So I bought another pair of regular slinkys. Then I was starting to realize I wasn't getting a punchy high end on the regs. Also the "E" string was just a tad too.. I guess loose would be the word. Power Slinkies

0 5/5 Krakissi - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Ernie Ball 2821 Power Slinky 5-String Nickel Wound Bass Set (50 - 135) (Electronics) I've tried everything from D'Addario to GHS, and even Elixir; nothing compares to the purple pack of Ernie Ball's. These strings are seriously heavy, and will help you achieve a really fat tone. Like the name implies, the Power Slinkies are -thick-, and all that extra meat makes it easy to pop and slap, or even throw in a couple power chords. If you wish your sound could be just a little heavier, these are the strings to get.Unlike the guitar version of Power Slinkies, which complicate bends and can make chords more difficult because of the smaller gap between strings and the increased pressure required to produce a good tone, these strings are fantastic for any style of bass playing. If you haven't tried them yet, even if you think you really like the strings you're using now, you should give these a shot the next time you replace your strings. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , May 16, 2012

Consistently great strings, even if they are a bit more expensive

Over the last 10 years or so, I've been pretty obsessive about trying out new gear - amps, instruments, effects, etc - always wondering if there's something better for me out there. As I've evolved as a player, my tastes have also changed a bit.I've been with DR Hi-Beams for a while now, though, and usually only buy another brand if I'm in a pinch (got a show tonight and I forgot to buy new strings, that kind of thing). Here are some reasons I prefer these strings over your run-of-the-mill roundwounds:First of all, I personally cannot tell a difference in sound or feel between most strings of similar gauge and materials. D'Addario, GHS, Ernie Ball, etc all have their standard nickel roundwound strings, and they all sound and feel the same. DRs are different, though, and I suspect this is due to their round-core construction. The majority of strings out there are constructed with a hexagonal core. I am a huge fan of complex tone, a la Chris Squire, Pete Townshend, Les Claypool, etc.For the gauge of the string, they are actually MORE flexible under the fingers than thinner strings by other brands (like the Ernie Ball misnomer "super slinky" ), and they have punchy highs and midrange over tones that give you that piano-string-like clarity to cut through the wash of distorted guitars, crashing cymbals and pretty much anything else, and give your bass tone independence and clarity in the mix.The strings have such high output, I find with my set up, when I really dig in, I can even get soft clipping distortion like Chris Squire gets running his split signal through a guitar amp. When I was in my teens, I tried out a bunch of other brands, like GHS bass boomers, and Dean Markley Blue Steels. Nothing compares to DR's quality, sound, complexity of tone, amplitude, and the length of life.My last set I put on while recording an album with... 5/5 A. Bright and punchy.

0 5/5 Jerry - See all my reviews This review is from: DR Strings Hi-Beam - Stainless Steel Round Core 45-105 (Electronics) I've been using Rotosound strings for years until I had a comp set of DR strings put on my Lakland. Very bright with a solid piano-like ring. Great for all styles of play. Very generous string life and will not shred your fingers. Perhaps a little more expensive than some popular choices, but you get what you pay for. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , September 17, 2010
