    Simply the Best

0 5/5 RoyStereo - See all my reviews This review is from: Ernie Ball 2833 Hybrid Slinky Nickel Wound Bass Set (45 - 105) (Electronics) As i titled my review, this string set is as good as the expensive ones, plus it has that particular punchy, fat, clear sound that everyone loves. I am not only a bass player but also a string dealer. Because of this I had the opportunity to test a wide range of brands, materials, gauges, etc. Ernie ball have something that the other ones don't. Wow, what a difference over the factory strings! These are great! The same Ernie Ball quality I expected after using Super Slinky guitar strings for over 30 years. These Rock! Love these strings. Great price, great tone, and long lasting.

First off, I want to say that I am a finger player, I play in tunings from E standard to B standard but D standard mostly. I do not use a pick (may matter to the pick players considering these strings) and I have been playing bass for about 8 or 9 years and have tried a great variety of strings out there. D'addarios, GHS, DR, Rotosound, Dean Markley, so on and so forth. When I first started playing bass I wanted to try out a lot of strings just to find the perfect sound for me. I am a metal bass player mainly. I also play classic rock, blues, whatever. ANYWAYS, I recently bought a Schecter Stilleto Studio 5 bass. It came loaded with regular slinkys and I was super impressed. Before then I was a DR guy. They had awesome tone but didn't last as long as I needed. So I bought another pair of regular slinkys. Then I was starting to realize I wasn't getting a punchy high end on the regs. Also the "E" string was just a tad too.. I guess loose would be the word. You would think that... 5/5 metalupyourass - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) The Best Strings...

This review is from: D'Addario EXL170TP Nickel Wound Bass Guitar Strings, Light, 45-100, 2 Sets, Long Scale (Electronics) Simply put, these are the best strings at the lowest price. I've been playing electric bass for over 35 years and these are the brand I always come back to. I've tried Dr. Bass, Rotosounds, Fender, Markleys, etc. with no noticeable difference or improvement. D'Addarios sound great and last a long time. You can usually find them in multi-packs and/or on sale so it doesn't hurt to change them more often. This is one example where use don't get what you pay for, your get more! They come in many different lengths and gauges, so make sure you buy the correct set for your instrument. If you select a different gauge, don't forget that you may have to make adjustments to the intonation, string height, and/or neck relief on your bass or guitar. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , January 7, 2011

This review is from: D'Addario EXL165TP Nickel Wound Bass Guitar Strings, Custom Light, 45-105, 2 Sets, Long Scale (Electronics) I've been using D'Addario strings for ages. Both on my basses, and my guitars. These bass strings are comfortable enough to play, even on the longer 3 hour+ gigs. They sound nice and bright. But the main thing is they last a long time. They retain their tuning and sound for ages which is good news for the struggling muso. Plus, who wants to keep changing their strings all the time? Not me! I don't have a guitar tech like the stars do. Or the money!I have tried many different brands over the years but always come back toDÁddario for their great performance and longevity.Highly Recommended 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , February 17, 2012

    Unbelievable Strings

I purchased a set of 4 for my bass in 1990. It was just a old Fender Pbass with stock pickups. The bass imediatly had a deeper sound and nicer feel. The strings rang longer and stayed in tune for outstanding periods of time. I had the medium-lights. Now for the pure comedy. The strings outlasted my bass. Yes that is right... the strings were still in good condition and still holding their tone for an entire gig in Jan 2006. 1 set of these lasted me 16years. My Pbass broke just beneath the neck in the body and I am finally going to give up the ghost and buy another set of strings for a bass... There is imediatly no doubt in my mind as to which set to buy. I went through 5 sets of strings in 3 years due to them shredding near joints and then these lasted me 16 YEARS... Value.. Sound... Tone... Tunning... I had bandmates tell me to replace my strings since they knew how old they were and then I would hand my bass over and say play.. then they would say.. um nevermind.. by God... 5/5 Mac75 "Cp" (Troy MI) - See all my reviews This review is from: Dean Markley Blue Steel 4-String ML 2674 Bass Guitar Strings (.045-.105) (Electronics) I purchased a set of 4 for my bass in 1990. Good strings, probably not worth your money

0 3/5 Steve Johnson (Tuscaloosa, AL) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Ernie Ball 2732 Regular Slinky Cobalt Bass Guitar Strings Set (Electronics) I play fast, aggressive music and tend to get a lot of sweat on my strings very quickly. Even after wiping off strings, the bright tone that I'm going for fades after a couple shows so I got these after a friend told me something in the way they were made makes them more resistant to moisture or oils from your skin... Either I sweat a lot more than your average person or these strings aren't that special. The sound out of the package and brightness over time is about the same as regular slinkys or dadarrios, so I'm going to keep pointing my money in that direction. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , December 16, 2014

Consistently great strings, even if they are a bit more expensive

Over the last 10 years or so, I've been pretty obsessive about trying out new gear - amps, instruments, effects, etc - always wondering if there's something better for me out there. As I've evolved as a player, my tastes have also changed a bit.I've been with DR Hi-Beams for a while now, though, and usually only buy another brand if I'm in a pinch (got a show tonight and I forgot to buy new strings, that kind of thing). Here are some reasons I prefer these strings over your run-of-the-mill roundwounds:First of all, I personally cannot tell a difference in sound or feel between most strings of similar gauge and materials. D'Addario, GHS, Ernie Ball, etc all have their standard nickel roundwound strings, and they all sound and feel the same. DRs are different, though, and I suspect this is due to their round-core construction. The majority of strings out there are constructed with a hexagonal core. A round core makes the string a bit more flexible and appears to... 5/5 Andrew Hagler - See all my reviews, July 17, 2012

    These strings are the best

I am a huge fan of complex tone, a la Chris Squire, Pete Townshend, Les Claypool, etc.For the gauge of the string, they are actually MORE flexible under the fingers than thinner strings by other brands (like the Ernie Ball misnomer "super slinky" ), and they have punchy highs and midrange over tones that give you that piano-string-like clarity to cut through the wash of distorted guitars, crashing cymbals and pretty much anything else, and give your bass tone independence and clarity in the mix.The strings have such high output, I find with my set up, when I really dig in, I can even get soft clipping distortion like Chris Squire gets running his split signal through a guitar amp. When I was in my teens, I tried out a bunch of other brands, like GHS bass boomers, and Dean Markley Blue Steels. Nothing compares to DR's quality, sound, complexity of tone, amplitude, and the length of life.My last set I put on while recording an album with... 5/5 A. Fantastic!! DR Hi-beams are my go-to, gotta' have'm bass strings!!

I've played, recorded and performed with nearly every bass string out there. For me the DR Hi Beams are the absolute best string I have used - Period. They have a great, flexible feel, sound fantastic with plenty of high-end bite, a nice smooth mid presence and a deep, satisfying low-end and they stay in tune extremely well. They also last a reasonably long time for this "I ruin strings 1/2 way through a set" bassist. Anyway, strings are a very subjective item, so I cannot promise these will be loved by everyone. But if you're looking for a great set of SS bass strings and have not tried Hi Beams yet, please do so. One warning: Because Hi-Beams are wound on a round core, they must be bent at the end before you cut them. DR includes an insert to explain this in detail. Please follow these instructions or your strings will sound and feel dead and lifeless. Also, make it a point to wind them up to pitch slower than you normally might. If you follow these two suggestions, you'll at least... 5/5 David B Hunter - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?)
