Best sounding, playing strings I have found for my Rickenbacker 4003!

I own 10 bass guitars and use a variety of DR string models on all of them. One of my favorite DR sets is their Sunbeams, which I use on all of my short scale basses. I was looking for something with a coating to try on my 4003 and had read good things about these Black Beauty strings which I discovered are basically coated Sunbeams, just like the other DR coated strings like the Red Devils!Prior to swtitching over to these I had been running with DR Lo-Riders on my 4003 which I also use on my Fender Jazz Basses. Contrary to the nice top end bite I get from these on my 62 and 73 Jazz, I just wasn't getting the classic RIC tone I wanted out of the 4003 with LO-Riders installed, so this is why I decided to give these a try.I had been running with DR Red Devils on my Fender Jaguar and my Gretch DuoJet for a long time so I already knew that these coated DRs have a great tone, reduced fret clatter and easy on the fingers to boot, so I already knew there was a... 5/5 The Resident Gourmet (California) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: DR Strings Bass Strings, Black Beauties - Extra-Life, Black-Coated (Electronics) These strings are great. I'm on my third set. I originally bought them because I heard they were long enough for my fanned fret Dingwall bass which needs longer strings to reach past the nut at the E. It turns out that these strings have excellent sound and really nice feel They sound great right out of the box and last a long time (as advertised.) am impresses enough that I just ordered a set of the light version for my 5 string Carvin.Be warned though. 0 5/5 Bongo Charm (Boston, MA) - See all my reviews This review is from: DR Strings NMCB-45 DR NEON 4 Bass Guitar String, Medium, Multi-Color (Electronics) Bought a set thinking they might help me learn the neck by associating strings/notes with color.I expected to sacrifice sound. I expected to see little paint flakes all over my bass. The truth is Ididn't expect much at all. It was just a experiment. But they're great. Color is eye-popping, action isvery smooth and THE SOUND IS RICHER THAN I IMAGINED POSSIBLE. If you're trying to learnyour neck combine these with Fret Daddy stickers for a powerful learning tool. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , May 7, 2014

    Love the Super Slinky strings!

My experience with guitar started in the 70s with a beat up acoustic my dad handed down to me. I was enthralled with the sounds of the guitar, but hated that giant hunk of junk. In the early 80s I got myself a job, tossed that pile of warped wood, and bought myself a Gibson electric. A friend quickly turned me on to GHS Boomers, which I used exclusively for probably 7-8 years. I had tried several other brands, but for me, the Boomers were the best.Well, the 90s came around, and my musical taste changed from alt-rock to a heavier sound. My preference transitioned from Gibson guitars through Orange and Mesa/Boogie amps to Jackson guitars through Marshall amps. Due to budgetary constraints, I switched to Carvin strings -- they used to be incredibly affordable -- but "discovered" the Ernie Ball Super Slinky strings when a guitar tech friend of mine restrung one of my super-strats for me, and that was that.So what do 'Slinkies' do?1. Best Guitar Strings in Existence

0 5/5 B. Santora - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Ernie Ball 2221 Regular Slinky Nickel Wound Set, .010 - .046 (Electronics) I just turned 60 years old and I've been playing guitar since I was 13 - I've tried every make of string, and played most every model of guitar as well, and these are the only strings I use. I recently bought a used guitar which was strung with something else - couldn't wait to get the EB strings on there. Nothing else has the feel and sound - they just have a musicality and aliveness to them and manufacturing quality has been consistent over the years. I'd recommend these for any guitar, any style - harmonics, sustain, feel - they have it all. Only decision is .010's or .009's - I like to use .010's when tuned down to E flat, and .009's for standard tuning. If you don't like your guitar and it's strung with other strings, try these. Thanks EB! 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , December 13, 2013

    Mandatory Read

Take this to heart. I have been playing for 16 years this Christmas. For the first seven years I experimented with different brands and gauges. These were the strings I settled on after all that experimentation and I have never looked back. Slinky 9's are ALL I have bought for the past nine years. There are two types of electric guitar strings: Expensive and cheap. NEVER buy cheap strings. They sound too bright and about one out of twenty will break when you wind them up. Expensive strings are a little more complicated. The durability factor is much better with expensive strings. About one out of eighty will break. The difference between the expensive brands is in the sound. Some are "tinny" or bright. Some sound like bass strings tuned way up. With that said, Ernie Ball Super Slinky 9's have what I call a "V" voicing. It's like they have a little equalizer built in set to a good rock setting. You know, boost the mids and highs and roll back the mids. THESE... are the only strings... 5/5 B. Stallings "Peanut" (Knoxville, TN) - See all my reviews, May 29, 2006

Short version: These strings are incredible. Why haven't you bought them yet?Long version:Oh my goodness, wow. I absolutely love these strings. I even love how they have red cloth wrapping on the end of the string up by the headstock. The tone of these strings? To die for. These are the best bass strings I have ever used.Tone:Some words to describe the tone are as follows: biting, growling, aggressive, articulate, and bright. These strings were made for players who want to be heard, who want to cut through the mix. These strings have great low end, but that's not the impressive part. What's so impressive about these strings is that when a note is played, the combination of midrange and high harmonics give the tone a metallic, almost piano-like quality. Good for slap bass? Goodness yes.Versatility:These strings may be bright and audacious, but they can also be tamed by simply turning down the tone knob... 5/5 Adam Hilliard - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) Bingo - We have a winner

0 5/5 Amazon Customer (Athens, AL United States) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Rotosound RS66LF Swing Bass 66 Stainless Steel Bass Guitar Strings (45 65 85 105) (Electronics) I'm just a rank amateur and an old geezer, but I've been looking for the right string to give me that traditional P bass tone, not too muddy or too bright. I've played flat wound strings for years, but lately my ears have heard their tone as muddy and when I tried turning my tone up on either the guitar or amp to get more clarity the G string would ring too bright, even when using foam at my bridge. So after reading reviews I decided to give these a try. Perfect tone and balance on all strings. After playing flats for so long I'm having to be more disciplined to avoid string squeak, but that's actually a good thing and my playing and technique have improved as a result. Getting the tone I want is certainly worth the effort. My old bass guitar never sounded better.Trying different strings to get the tone you want is far cheaper than buying a new bass. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , June 13, 2014

They feel great, play great and last for a very, very long time.I normally play punky/indie sort of stuff on Fender Precision and Jazz basses (I used to use flats on the Jazz but I switched to the 66s on that too).Quality *****Sound *****Durability *****Price *****I don't even consider other strings anymore -- nice to have one no-brainer in my life. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , December 8, 2013

    Unbelievable Strings

I purchased a set of 4 for my bass in 1990. It was just a old Fender Pbass with stock pickups. The bass imediatly had a deeper sound and nicer feel. The strings rang longer and stayed in tune for outstanding periods of time. I had the medium-lights. Now for the pure comedy. The strings outlasted my bass. Yes that is right... the strings were still in good condition and still holding their tone for an entire gig in Jan 2006. 1 set of these lasted me 16years. My Pbass broke just beneath the neck in the body and I am finally going to give up the ghost and buy another set of strings for a bass... There is imediatly no doubt in my mind as to which set to buy. I went through 5 sets of strings in 3 years due to them shredding near joints and then these lasted me 16 YEARS... Value.. Sound... Tone... Tunning... I had bandmates tell me to replace my strings since they knew how old they were and then I would hand my bass over and say play.. then they would say.. um nevermind.. by God... 5/5 Mac75 "Cp" (Troy MI) - See all my reviews This review is from: Dean Markley Blue Steel Electric Bass Strings, 45-105, 2674, Medium Light (Electronics) I purchased a set of 4 for my bass in 1990. 0 5/5 carl zahrndt - See all my reviews This review is from: Dean Markley Blue Steel Electric Bass Strings, 50-105, 2676, Medium (Electronics) What can I say they are dean markley blue steel. However I live in a small Podunk town so my local music store doesn't even carry this brand and the cheapest they carry is almost $30. I am used to Sarasota Florida where we had a Sam Ash but even there they costed more. AS FOR THE STRINGS hey they are all a preference some folks like GHS Boomers, some like the Ernie Ball, and those are good. HOWEVER I find that the cryogenically treated nickel 1 sounds better. Very clear and a lot of punch, bone rattling bass. It seems to go right through you. 2 I find that they have a nice smooth feel when playing. 3 They last longer. in Florida strings would rust up from the humidity. AS FOR THE PLACE THEY CAME FROM: Great! was about $16 and free shipping. arrived in a few days. I will always get my stings here now. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , July 26, 2014
