Finding the right string match for an ukulele...

4/5 daniel talioaga (san leandro, calif.) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: D'Addario EJ65C Pro-Arté Custom Extruded NylonUkulele Strings, Concert (Electronics) Very nice match to the concert uke I had in mind to put on. Previous strings buzzed and rattled and sounded somewhat harsh (but some of that is just because it was time to change strings).. These D'Adarrio strings have a bright, clear tone and have a nice feel to them. An interesting alternative to nylgut strings. Please note that string choice is somewhat arbitrary and personal. I've tried 2 other string sets on this uke and these strings presently have the sound and feel I'd like from this particular instrument. Having said that I'm still impressed with these Pro-Arte' Custom strings on my concert as well as other different types of D'Addario Strings which I have fitted on my Tenor and Baritone and banjo ukuleles. Pro review-love them so far

I am a pro player. I have used Aquilas and find them to be good, loud strings. But for my new koa Island Ukulele, which was strung with Aquilas from the shop or luthier, I ran into a problem where the Uke returns so much energy that the A string actually rattled on the bridge, creating a fret-buzz-like tone (I've seen a negative review of Island Ukes where the player thought they had bad fret buzz, I can almost guarantee this is actually what they were experiencing- the Uke actually vibrates TOO much for the unforgiving nylgut strings- kind of a good problem to have if you ask me. One option would be to replace the bridge with wood or another slightly softer material, but I had success using a little piece of foam around the string below the bridge, problem solved, in a slightly ugly way). And frankly, I didn't feel the spanky nylgut tone was doing the best this Uke could do. Worth doesn't make a wound low G as far as I can find, but I LOVE worth brown strings. What I may end up... 5/5 Nick W - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) Working great for me!

5/5 RyanG001 (SF Bay Area) - See all my reviews This review is from: D'Addario J53 Ukulele Strings, Hawaiian-Concert (Electronics) I bought these strings to replace the rather flat and dull sounding original strings on my Uke. I noticed a difference right away, they sound brigher and the instrument is a little louder as well. They aren't going to make a cheap Ukulele sound like an expensive one, but for a few dollars they made a nice improvement. I went from clear strings to black which I think made my Uke look better as well. I will buy them again. Amazing Sound Improvement!

I just finished installing my new strings, and I'm in love! I wasn't sure what strings to get at first. People insisted I go with the Aquila, but after doing more research on my own I stumbled upon a video that shows what strings Jake Shimabukuro uses. He uses classical guitar strings with hyper tension. Luckily, D'Addario Pro Arte does all the work for me and chose which guitar strings I needed that fits my concert ukulele. When you get the package it has the cover just like in the product picture, but inside the packet it will say classical guitar strings. That's how it's supposed to be. I believe the first review didn't do his homework before making his purchase. You're suppose to use the classical guitar string E for G and A on your ukulele. Then use B for your E string, and use G for your C string. There is a big improvement with the sound. I really thought there wouldn't be, but I'm just blown away. I may try the Aquila string down the road, but right now... 5/5 Eva - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) Bright sounding strings

4/5 Nunya Biz - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: D'Addario J53 Ukulele Strings, Hawaiian-Concert (Electronics) First off, I'm NO ukulele expert. That being said: I replaced the original strings on my new Mahalo U-35PK Sparkling Soprano Ukulele Outfit in Pink with these. I know they stated Concert, however, reading up on this, they can still be used on a soprano or standard uke. Immediately I noticed a difference in sound on these strings. Like another reviewer said, it's not going to perform miracles on a cheap uke, but it sure helped out a lot. The sound is quite a bit louder and so much brighter as well. I'm loving the sound. Also, I really like the way they look on my pink uke; it's a nice touch. I would definitely recommend these.
