About this book
For over 170 years the C.F. Martin company has produced some of the finest flat-top acoustic guitars in the world. Martin's designs for the shape and construction of these instruments have influenced virtually every other manufacturer, and the flat-top guitar as we know it today is essentially the same as that established by Martin in the 1850s. At one time or another Martin's guitars have driven the sound of every kind of popular music, from country to pop, from bluegrass to rock 'n' roll, and with the current resurgence of acoustic music, Martin's premier guitars are once more finding a new generation of enthusiastic musicians. The Martin Book is a fresh view of this extraordinary guitar maker, pulling together many strands of musical and manufacturing lore into a fascinating whole that illuminates Martin's long and varied history. Dozens of specially commissioned full-color photographs show every kind of Martin model, some of which come from Martin's own unique collection. Meticulous listings for collectors and enthusiasts simplify the identification of Martin instruments and detail virtually every guitar that the company has produced since the early 1830s.

    really nice uke

0 5/5 Alex - See all my reviews This review is from: Martin 110XKUKE Ukulele (Electronics) I pre-ordered the Martin 0XK uke this summer when I bough my wife a Martin LXM. I've had it for a couple of weeks now, and I love the sound. I prefer it over my Cordoba 25CK. It is a little heavier than you would expect it to be, but it doesn't distract when you play it. Quality is excellent. I don't have any complains about it. If you like the Martin HPL guitars then you are going to like the 0XK. It is not solid wood. If that is a deal breaker for you then stay away from this one, but if you are looking for an ukulele you can take with you to the beach or camping, this one is a better choice. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , October 11, 2010

    Great Ukulele for Travel

I was looking for a quality sounding travel soprano ukulele that wouldn't disappoint, and think I made a good choice. My OXK always has a sweet sound you'd expect from a Martin, nearly as fine as some of my best Ukuleles. I've played it in 104 degrees heat and drop dead humidity, on the dock under oak trees dripping with Spanish Moss in Charleston, SC, in the baking 100+ degree "Carefree Highway" dry heat of the Arizona desert, and sitting on my front porch with my Golden Retriever, Cody, snow piling up, looking out over the lakes in Washington State, and have never had a problem. No warping, no sound change, and very little tuning once the strings are stretched. Of course, I would never leave it in the hot sun or in a closed car, because you still have to treat it with respect. To travel, I just stick it in my suitcase - I don't even use a cover - and pack it in where it's safe - I travel "carry-on," so I don't have to worry about it getting stood on or moved by the TSA, so if... 5/5 H. skeptical at first

0 5/5 Captain Ron "rbbiggs" (Midland, MI United States) - See all my reviews This review is from: Martin 110XKUKE Ukulele (Electronics) I was skeptical at first. I mean, how can a uke made out of formica possibly sound good? After playing it for 10 minutes at a store, I was blown away at how good it sounds. Tired of trying out crappy cheap ukes to travel with, this Martin fit the bill perfectly. Even the neck is laminated out of the same stuff they make hunting rifle stocks out of.Comes with a nice durable gig bag and stuffs easily in my motorcycle saddle bag along with my fishing gear. I only wish Martin would come out with a concert size OXK. !! 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , December 29, 2013

0 5/5 B. Minnick - See all my reviews Nice bright tone and these strings hold a slide. They also don't get "grabby" with your fingertips after playing for a bit like some strings can. Beautiful! Working great for me!

0 5/5 RyanG001 (SF Bay Area) - See all my reviews This review is from: D'Addario J53 Ukulele Strings, Hawaiian-Concert (Electronics) I bought these strings to replace the rather flat and dull sounding original strings on my Uke. I noticed a difference right away, they sound brigher and the instrument is a little louder as well. They aren't going to make a cheap Ukulele sound like an expensive one, but for a few dollars they made a nice improvement. I went from clear strings to black which I think made my Uke look better as well. I will buy them again. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , November 2, 2007

    Amazing Sound Improvement!

I just finished installing my new strings, and I'm in love! I wasn't sure what strings to get at first. People insisted I go with the Aquila, but after doing more research on my own I stumbled upon a video that shows what strings Jake Shimabukuro uses. He uses classical guitar strings with hyper tension. Luckily, D'Addario Pro Arte does all the work for me and chose which guitar strings I needed that fits my concert ukulele. When you get the package it has the cover just like in the product picture, but inside the packet it will say classical guitar strings. That's how it's supposed to be. I believe the first review didn't do his homework before making his purchase. You're suppose to use the classical guitar string E for G and A on your ukulele. Then use B for your E string, and use G for your C string. There is a big improvement with the sound. I really thought there wouldn't be, but I'm just blown away. I may try the Aquila string down the road, but right now... 5/5 Eva - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) Bright sounding strings

0 4/5 Nunya Biz - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: D'Addario J53 Ukulele Strings, Hawaiian-Concert (Electronics) First off, I'm NO ukulele expert. That being said: I replaced the original strings on my new Mahalo U-35PK Sparkling Soprano Ukulele Outfit in Pink with these. I know they stated Concert, however, reading up on this, they can still be used on a soprano or standard uke. Immediately I noticed a difference in sound on these strings. Like another reviewer said, it's not going to perform miracles on a cheap uke, but it sure helped out a lot. The sound is quite a bit louder and so much brighter as well. I'm loving the sound. Also, I really like the way they look on my pink uke; it's a nice touch. I would definitely recommend these. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , May 18, 2010

0 5/5 Aaron "misteraon" - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Crossrock CRA800TUBL ABS Tenor Ukulele Hard-Shell Case, Blue (Electronics) This is a nice case for my Uke and fits my Kala KA-TEM ukulele perfectly. I have just enough room under the headstock and in the storage compartment to keep my strap, tuner, and capo. It is well built and durable and a fun unique color too. Only minor complaint is it smelled like glue when I first got it. I just left it sit open in the corner for a few weeks to air out and finish off gassing. Which solved the problem. Would definitely consider a Crossrock case again. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , February 26, 2014

    Crossrock Tenor Uke Case

0 5/5 dogebooks - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Crossrock CRA800TUBL ABS Tenor Ukulele Hard-Shell Case, Blue (Electronics) I decided my beautiful Koaloha tenor ukelele deserved a special case, and this is definitely it. She fits perfectly! This hard case provides sturdy protection for my baby. All the cases in the music stores were so boring and not nearly as protective or well made as this brand. My only problem was choosing from the many colors available, but I ultimately decided on blue, like Blue Hawaii. People always comment on this unique blue case, which is not what you usually see someone carrying their instrument in. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , November 16, 2012
