About this book
For over 170 years the C.F. Martin company has produced some of the finest flat-top acoustic guitars in the world. Martin's designs for the shape and construction of these instruments have influenced virtually every other manufacturer, and the flat-top guitar as we know it today is essentially the same as that established by Martin in the 1850s. At one time or another Martin's guitars have driven the sound of every kind of popular music, from country to pop, from bluegrass to rock 'n' roll, and with the current resurgence of acoustic music, Martin's premier guitars are once more finding a new generation of enthusiastic musicians. The Martin Book is a fresh view of this extraordinary guitar maker, pulling together many strands of musical and manufacturing lore into a fascinating whole that illuminates Martin's long and varied history. Dozens of specially commissioned full-color photographs show every kind of Martin model, some of which come from Martin's own unique collection. Meticulous listings for collectors and enthusiasts simplify the identification of Martin instruments and detail virtually every guitar that the company has produced since the early 1830s.

    really nice uke

0 5/5 Alex - See all my reviews This review is from: Martin 110XKUKE Ukulele (Electronics) I pre-ordered the Martin 0XK uke this summer when I bough my wife a Martin LXM. I've had it for a couple of weeks now, and I love the sound. I prefer it over my Cordoba 25CK. It is a little heavier than you would expect it to be, but it doesn't distract when you play it. Quality is excellent. I don't have any complains about it. If you like the Martin HPL guitars then you are going to like the 0XK. It is not solid wood. If that is a deal breaker for you then stay away from this one, but if you are looking for an ukulele you can take with you to the beach or camping, this one is a better choice. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , October 11, 2010

    Great Ukulele for Travel

I was looking for a quality sounding travel soprano ukulele that wouldn't disappoint, and think I made a good choice. My OXK always has a sweet sound you'd expect from a Martin, nearly as fine as some of my best Ukuleles. I've played it in 104 degrees heat and drop dead humidity, on the dock under oak trees dripping with Spanish Moss in Charleston, SC, in the baking 100+ degree "Carefree Highway" dry heat of the Arizona desert, and sitting on my front porch with my Golden Retriever, Cody, snow piling up, looking out over the lakes in Washington State, and have never had a problem. No warping, no sound change, and very little tuning once the strings are stretched. Of course, I would never leave it in the hot sun or in a closed car, because you still have to treat it with respect. To travel, I just stick it in my suitcase - I don't even use a cover - and pack it in where it's safe - I travel "carry-on," so I don't have to worry about it getting stood on or moved by the TSA, so if... 5/5 H. skeptical at first

0 5/5 Captain Ron (Midland, MI United States) - See all my reviews This review is from: Martin 110XKUKE Ukulele (Electronics) I was skeptical at first. I mean, how can a uke made out of formica possibly sound good? After playing it for 10 minutes at a store, I was blown away at how good it sounds. Tired of trying out crappy cheap ukes to travel with, this Martin fit the bill perfectly. Even the neck is laminated out of the same stuff they make hunting rifle stocks out of.Comes with a nice durable gig bag and stuffs easily in my motorcycle saddle bag along with my fishing gear. I only wish Martin would come out with a concert size OXK. !! 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , December 29, 2013

Finding the right string match for an ukulele...

0 4/5 daniel talioaga (san leandro, calif.) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: D'Addario EJ65C Pro-Arté Custom Extruded NylonUkulele Strings, Concert (Electronics) Very nice match to the concert uke I had in mind to put on. Previous strings buzzed and rattled and sounded somewhat harsh (but some of that is just because it was time to change strings).. These D'Adarrio strings have a bright, clear tone and have a nice feel to them. An interesting alternative to nylgut strings. Please note that string choice is somewhat arbitrary and personal. I've tried 2 other string sets on this uke and these strings presently have the sound and feel I'd like from this particular instrument. Having said that I'm still impressed with these Pro-Arte' Custom strings on my concert as well as other different types of D'Addario Strings which I have fitted on my Tenor and Baritone and banjo ukuleles. These are pretty good flourocarbon strings

0 5/5 Amazon Customer - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: D'Addario EJ99T Pro-Arté Carbon Ukulele Strings, Tenor (Electronics) These are pretty good flourocarbon strings, and the low G comes unwound. They're pretty clear with a long sustain. They feel like a thicker Worth clear that are easier to find. If you're uke likes a little bit higher tension/thicker than oasis/worth, you should check them out. They're not as tight as Martin 620's and thinner than pro-arte's. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , May 21, 2015

0 4/5 Rad5030 - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: D'Addario EJ53T Pro-Arté Rectified Ukulele Strings, Tenor Ukulele/Hawaiian (Electronics) These are different. Kind of hard on the finger tips but will assist in building up the callouses...The sound is different that Martin's and Aquila's which may be a little more mellow....but the price is great. I would recommend you to give a set a try! They break in much faster than Aquila's which take what seems forever to stay in tune and are different with the one wound string...can't really figure out the reason for that though...Pro'sInexpensiveCon'sTough on the fingers....but will build them up... 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , June 11, 2015

0 5/5 Beckie Perez - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Phitz Concert Ukulele Case, Distressed Hula - PH67272UCP (Electronics) I was looking for a bag for my new Lanikai Sailor Jerry Ukulele...found this on Amazon. How could you not love the graphic on this bag. For that reason alone, I ordered it. And, it is a pretty as it looks in real life. To my surprise, the quality of the construction was top notch as well...heavy duty material, well padded, cool zipper fobs and they placed the accessories pocket on opposite side of the graphic (the side with the shoulder strap) so as not break up the hula girl picture. They don't show this, but the inside of the bag is a bright red nylon liner fabric. My concert uke fit perfectly in the bag...snug as a bug in a rug. It's a quality product. I only hope they come out with some more designs...tiki, Hawaiian, regae. parrot head, etc. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , March 4, 2015

0 5/5 schraderj (South Carolina) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Phitz Concert Ukulele Case, Distressed Hula - PH67272UCP (Electronics) Now, I haven't taken this case on a trip yet but I'm thrilled with it so far. First, it showed up three days after I ordered it. Second, it looks great, inside and out. Third, the zippers are smooth and easy to work - no fighting with them or getting material caught. Last, it fits both my pineapple soprano uke or my slightly longer random uke that was once a child's guitar. Hope it holds up because I love it. 0, March 9, 2015
