    Smooth tuner

    This tuner works very easily, not stiff or hard to turn as some tuners are. I'm not sure exactly why that is, because they seem very simple and you'd think they'd all work the same, but they don't for some reason.     American Song Potpourri

    The 28 songs on this CD provide a broad spectrum of American art songs. JanDeGaetani possesses a beautiful mezzo-soprano voice and ideally expresses the proper emotions these songs require. Gilbert Kalish's piano supplies the necessary support without getting in the way of the singer. All in all, this is a good collaboration. 4/5 Daniel G.     Broad overview with a few standouts

    As others have noted, this disc covers a wide range of periods and styles in American song. For me that means that, while always pleasant, I rarely want to listen to it all the way through. However, there are some tracks I have loved for years and cannot do without. The standouts for me are the compositions by Elliott Carter, Warren Benson, William Bolcom and especially Aaron Jay Kernis' setting of Gertrude Stein, which I can barely get enough of.
