Great Quality Instrument!!

I have been playing violin for three years now and I felt it was time to take the plunge into the electric violin world. I was also looking for something relatively inexpensive since my main violin is on the higher end. This was the perfect choice.Sound - Try as it might, it just can't replicate the sound of an acoustic violin (which I wasn't looking for anyway). It can get pretty close though and all in all the sound is nice. The pickup is good, not the best quality but it does its job pretty well. As for being silent, it is quieter than an acoustic with a mute, but not completely silent.Construction/Look - The body is nice and solid unlike some of the cheap online instruments you can get. The finish is well done and the ebony pieces with mother of pearl inlays look rather nice. The inlays fall flush too, nothing sticking out at all. The pegs don't slip at all. The only thing I could find wrong with the construction was the bridge. It was a bit too high but... 5/5 Mike - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) Totally AMAZING! But I have a question about the bridge...

I love this violin so much, it sounds great and looks great. I'm not rating the bow. It's a typical cheap bow but it works just fine. My only issue with this thing has to do with the bridge. It is so oddly shaped... It slants upward, making the G string MUCH higher than the E. What I'm used to is a perfect arch for a bridge. The G and E are even, and the D and A are even, both slightly higher than the G and E. From what I understand, this gives a better ability to switch strings. I believe it. My acoustic violin is very easily played, perfect arch, and I love it. This electric I love also, but it's sooo hard not to hit the G string while playing the D, It just feels weird. I'm either gonna shave it down or have it replaced. Bridges only costs a few bucks, that's why I'm giving this instrument a 5 star. I do wonder though if there are any advantages to this Bridge design? Thanks in advance. As for the rest of it, totally amazing!!! It's surprising, the headphones feel really... 5/5 Jessica Hurd "Jessica Hurd" - See all my reviews, January 4, 2011

    Perfect Violin for Me!

So, I haven't played the violin since grade school. And I rent a room in a house, so I was wanted a violin that would be quiet. So, I choose this one... Alas, it's not really "quiet" or silent (even with a mute). Its "quieter" than an acoustic. But still, due to the vibrations, it still gives off its own sound.I was looking for a inexpensive violin. But the other ones I checked out, looked like crap. They had a plastic body, which I am not into.I love the fact that this Cecilio has a wooden body with the mother of earl details. It actually looks much nicer in person, than the pictures. Smells great too (but then I love the smell of fresh cute wood and rosin... call me crazy). And the sound is great (to me anyways, as a beginner). And since it is new, I know that in a few years the sound will mature. (hence another reason I wanted a violin with a wooden body, not plastic).Buying this violin was a big step for me. Since, Electric violins are... 5/5 Latoya M Michel (Seattle, WA United States) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) Great Silent Violin

0 5/5 F. - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Yamaha SV-130 Series Silent Electric Violin - Instrument Only Black Instrument Only This violin is great. Easy to tune. Holds a good tune. Sounds great. The bose system I added is a plus. Hits the high notes warmly.WARNING. The violin does not come with strings, violin case, bow, etc. The picture is deceiving. You have to set up the bridge and string in the strings that you must buy separately. Beginner's may have trouble doing this. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews Was this review helpful to you? , November 5, 2012

    QUALITY AND SOUND

0 5/5 Cali gadget guy "Cali Gadget Guy" (Southern California) - See all my reviews This review is from: Yamaha SV-130 Series Silent Electric Violin - Instrument Only Black Instrument Only I choose the SV-130 because you do not need a separate power unit to play it. Just plug it into an amp or sound system with any 1/4" instrument cable. The workmanship is Yamaha quality. The action was high so I made a new bridge for it. The reverbs are not over powering. I put Daddario Preludes on it. The ebony tuning pegs work nice and hold tune. It would be nice to be able to use any shoulder rest on it but the one for it works fine. The sound of course is not acoustic but it is nice. For quiet practice it is just that. It comes with ear buds and you can plug an MP3 player into it to play along to songs with. Mine did come from the dealer with the bridge in place. I would think anyone buying this price violin knows how to stand up a bridge and tune it. Violin cases are plentiful everywhere. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews Was this review helpful to you? , March 4, 2014

Nice fiddle, but electronics and bow are junk

The violin is okay; not the greatest tone, but plays fine. Very pleasantly surprised by the quality of the peg work, though the bridge is probably too thick and needs to be lowered unless you like the action really high. Replacing the low quality strings would also be advisable. There was a slight cosmetic blemish on the finish, but entirely acceptable in my opinion. The bow that came with the violin is warped beyond playability and would cost hundreds of dollars to straighten, so putting it in the trash is the best option. The major problem is the output jacks, which only function intermittently. It's very annoying when you're playing and then all of a sudden there's no sound. Extraneous clicks and pops were improved by using a well shielded monster cable, but that didn't solve the drop out problem from the main output.I really like the look and feel of this particular model and wish the electronics could be upgraded. Am checking around to see if... 2/5 janie - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) 0 5/5 James J Romero - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Crescent EV-BK Full Size 4/4 Electric Violin Starter Kit, Black (Includes CrescentTM Digital E-Tuner) I had no trouble tuning it and i have never played with a violin before. It sounds amazing, but not quiet as i thought. When plugged into amp it sounds wonderful and clear. Took some time to rosen bow, but is great. Had no instructions. Looked like it was a little worn out, because the nobs working was faded. Head phone dont respond to volume control, but would be a good idea to get a pair that does. To tune it was a challenge because it kept coming loose. Just push them in then twist. Comfortable and easy to use. Love the bag. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews Was this review helpful to you? , August 28, 2013

0 5/5 eViolin - See all my reviews Highly recommended. I'm an experienced violin player (I have several decades of experience playing this instrument) and this violin plays, sounds and feels just like a regular acoustic violin. I use it a lot to practice at night so nobody hears me, it's IDEAL!Also important: the strings and bridge are regular components. So you can go to any violin shop to replace them should you need to do so at one point. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews Was this review helpful to you? , October 22, 2010

I bought this to take to Afghanistan on deployment so I could practice while I'm here. Its rugged enough that it made the trip with no problems, but I practice it without headphones so I can more easily match the sound with the resonance of the instrument. The headphones sound fine, but I prefer to play without them so I can concentrate on the natural vibration of the instrument.I used it at a country gig the weekend before I came and plugged directly into a Fender Tube amp sans preamp or equalizer, but wasn't happy with the sound - too high. I didn't have time to experiment with tweaking the sound, so thats probably less about the instrument. I enjoyed having the quarter inch jack to plug into instead of having to worry that I was going to scratch the wood on my regular violin with the pickup grip. While deployed, I've been able to plug the violin into my Bose desktop computer speakers and it sounds much better than through the fender guitar amp.
