    Decent economy ukulele

Bought this on a whim because it bears a resemblance to the Mahalothat no one seems to have in stock these days. Worked out well - inshort, this one is a nice little ukulele. Let's be honest... at thisprice, you're not getting a masterpiece. You're hoping for somethingstructurally sound with decent tone and intonation, but also a uke youwon't fret over when your kid picks it up and bangs it against thewall or draws on it. This uke actually sounds quite sweet and playsnicely. Description says it's made out of maple. Wood is plain infigure, and colored with a brown stain. Comes with a gig bag that'smore of a slip cover. Giving this four stars overall for the qualityto price ratio, but you get what you pay for. 4/5 Sasha Pollack - See all my reviews This review is from: Diamond Head DU-150 Ukulele, Natural (Electronics) Bought this on a whim because it bears a resemblance to the Mahalothat no one seems to have in stock these days. a truly perfect starter kit

I've been pondering picking up uke for a really long time and when I saw the deal that is this kit, I decided, I'm going for it. (I already play guitar, guitalele, cello, bass, and Dobro, and have for literally almost 75% of my life.)First of all, I'm really impressed by the quality of the instrument! It's a very solid little thing and puts out plenty of sound. I was not expecting that out of this thing--I figured, for the price, it'll be a piece of crap I can noodle around on, but it's surprisingly decent. My only complaint after playing this guy daily for a few weeks is that the intonation is slightly off. Even when the strings are perfectly in tune, chording will result in slightly out-of-tune pitches. If you have perfect pitch, this will annoy you, but most folks may not even notice. I'm not taking any stars off because that's pretty much to be expected in entry-level instruments, and it's fairly minor--I barely even notice it.The book itself is a little... 5/5 julie b. Not bad, but you could do better--here's how

This is a decent starter package for what it is:1. A Firebrand wood soprano ukulele with nylon strings. (More on this)2. A copy of Alfred's Teach Yourself to Play Ukulele with a CD3. Extra strings4. A "gig" bag.The uke is laminated wood and mediocre. The strings are average in quality. The book is fine, though I prefer for the rank beginner (it teaches the notes on the strings) and if you are somewhat familiar, then I prefer which has a lot on not only playing, but strumming, picking, styles and has a CD and many types of songs to learn. As to the uke, believe it or not, a plastic-and-laminate... 3/5 Joanna Daneman (Middletown, DE USA) - See all my reviews, April 29, 2012

    Not a good instrument

I purchased this set, based on the reviews, as a gift for a young neice. Rather than just giftwrapping the box, I took the uke out, tuned it, retuned it, stretched the strings, retuned it. After 2 days, it would hold tune for about 3 minutes of playing (junk strings are probably to blame). I did all this because my neice would be a beginner and therefore be easily frustrated by an instrument that would not hold tune. Next I went to a "learn to play" site on the net and found C Am F G7 chord diagrams and started to attempt to play. The strings were so high off the fretboard that any note fingered above the 3rd fret would pull the string out of tune. The easy chords were difficult because the high strings got in the way of my fingers so that I could not finger a chord cleanly. With the intonation and tuning problems, I was not willing to give this instrument to my neice, so next I went to a local music store to see if a set of strings and some shaving of the saddle (the... 1/5 Ray_Blmngtn - See all my reviews This review is from: Alfred's Teach Yourself to Play Ukulele, Complete Starter Pack (Electronics) I purchased this set, based on the reviews, as a gift for a young neice. Good beginner Uke

Bought this on a bit of a whim, to see if I'd like playing the ukulele. Never played an instrument before, so sounds quality wasn't really an issue for me. This is great for the price. It's playable and sounds great. The paint is chipping a bit, but only slightly. After a few days it holds its tune well. I would recommend this for anyone who wants something cheap to strum on, or who wants to know if they really want to play the uke. Great fun! 4/5 Jeremy J. If you're looking for a decent ukele, this one is worth it.

I is exactly what it's worth. It plays niceley, and creates a good sound. I'd recommend this for a beginner or an intermediate who's looking for a ukulele to start out with, or just to have. It looks nice, and feels good in your hands. The only problem is that it is painted, but in delicate hands it will look new for years. The ukulele is neatly stringed, and built good. It plays pretty well, but not the best. Anyhow this ukulele is worth what it costs... great little instrument

My husband and I started playing ukulele this summer. We wanted small instruments to take camping. I was afraid the soprano would be too small, so I bought a concert size Kala in electric blue (I thought the color was fun). My hubby got a tenor Kala in Mahogany. Within a month I realized my shiny blue concert was too slippery and slid down my belly while playing in a standing position. I put a couple of small velcro squares on the back to prevent slipping but it didn't help much. I decided to get a soprano in Mahogany and ordered a Kala since the first two were well made. When the soprano Kala it arrived I was happy to see it came with Aquila strings which are better quality than the original strings on the other two Kalas. We changed the strings on the other two ukes for Aquilas based on recommendations from seasoned uke players. The soprano size is plenty big enough for me, although my husband says his big fingers have trouble fitting on the smaller neck after... 5/5 Kate Johnson "migrator" (offshore) - See all my reviews, November 20, 2009

    A terrific starter ukulele

I work at Eckroth Music in Bismarck, ND and we started receiving these ukuleles as a new product item to replace shabby, low-end ones we were getting from a different vendor, but at a similar price range. Boy, what a difference in quality! I wasn't a uke player until I started messing around with this one, and I bought my own KA-15S ukulele to get started because I love the tone and the quality construction of it. I have to admit that I didn't know the correct tuning, because the G string is higher then the C string right below it, and I ended up breaking my A string because I had it tuned an octave higher than I should have. Then I watched a Youtube video on how to re-string and tune the uke, and pretty soon I was learning to play a Queen song. Just fabulous. I re-strung it with Martin M600 flurocarbon strings, but the Aquila strings that come on the uke are the most popular brand around, and for good reason. The next time I have to re-string, I'm going to get Aquila Nylgut strings... 5/5 Robert W. Ross "- Rob Ross" (Bismarck, ND) - See all my reviews, May 14, 2011

Get this one if you want to read music, especially notes

which is exactly what I was looking for. This book starts with the very beginning and covers the basics of music theory and ukulele playing. I think the book is pretty comprehensive and well-written, if very basic. I like the fact that it teaches you how to "tune the instrument to itself" (relative tuning)in the beginning. After preliminaries about the ukulele itself, the reader learns all the basic stuff that everyone has to learn who took band in school or had music lessons--musical notation, rhythm, and so on. This music theory basis is added upon as the student progresses. For example, you will learn what makes up a scale--both major and minor--and what music "keys" are.The strong point of this lesson book lies in it's teaching of the individual notes on the strings. To me, this is very important. You will learn not only how to play chords and strum and sing along, but you will be able to pick out melodies on the strings and read from regular sheet music. New chords... 4/5 K. Draper (oklahoma) - See all my reviews, December 3, 2010

As a beginner to the ukulele (and someone who doesn't have an ear for knowing when something is in tune) I knew I would need a tuner. I chose the Snark SN-6 Ukulele Tuner based on price and positive Amazon review. I have to say I'm not disappointed at all.Positives- Great price. Great value. Extremely handy to have. Easy to use. A must for a beginner or anyone who doesn't have the ear for knowing when something is in tune.Negatives- The battery it came with didn't seem to last long at all. I'm not sure if it was a faulty battery, a cheap battery, or if possibly I left it on too long or left it on accidentally after putting it way and drained the battery.Recommendations- Buy a couple of extra batteries just in case. It uses one CR2032 3 volt battery. The price of the battery seems to vary quite a bit depending on brand and where you buy them from but at most they're $2 each. 5/5 Brandie - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Great little Uke Tuner!

All I wanted was a good, well priced tuner for my ukulele. Nothing fancy, just a good tuner. My other tuner (a musedo) would be all over the place at times when I was trying to use it and I no longer really trusted it. Wonderful.

I was skeptical on what ukulele I should get as my first, and I consulted plenty of things: uke owners, reviews and various other things. After plenty of searching, I came to the conclusion of getting this one because it was recommended by uke owners and its reviews were good. It was definitely a good choice. The strings are great, but in the beginning it takes a bit to get the strings to stay in tune. It's such a wonderful tone, and the size is just about right. If you're getting your first uke, I recommend this one. 5/5 rogelyosep - See all my reviews This review is from: Lanikai LU-21 Soprano Ukulele (Electronics) I was skeptical on what ukulele I should get as my first, and I consulted plenty of things: uke owners, reviews and various other things. Great starter

Experienced ukulele players like to bag on the Lanikai, but it's been a great starter ukulele for me. The stock strings (aquila) have excellent play and once you get past the initial couple of days, hold it in tune very well.It has a classic ukulele sound, but does have a full textured sound (it doesn't sound like a tinny toy). This is a production model, so there won't be much of a sense of individuality. Every Lanikai LU-21 is the same, and since the solid wood top is made from a wood that lacks much grain, that sense is increased (you better put your name on it if you know you're going to be around other beginners). The one thing that I don't like much is the tuning pegs. There's a bit of play in them which can get wearisome when you're close to being tuned but are making some fine adjustments. 4/5 koba22 "koba22" (Meadow Vista, CA United States) - See all my reviews This review is from: Lanikai LU-21 Soprano Ukulele (Electronics) Experienced ukulele players like to bag on the Lanikai, but it's been a great starter ukulele for me. Amazing Soprano Uke

After spending two days using a brandless ukulele from a music store, this little baby came in the mail, much to my delight. With Aquila strings, low action, and beautiful craftsmanship, the quality of this product is apparent before even the first strum. If you're looking to start playing ukulele or are switching from a larger uke, this is the way to go. Great Ukulele for beginners

I bought 12 of these ukuleles for my high school program. They are excellent Ukuleles for beginners on a budget. They hold their tune well, and are pretty sturdy. These do not have friction tuners, which is a plus! My only recommendation is that you purchase Aquila strings for them. The black strings are ok, but they are not as resonant as when you place Aquilas on them :) 4/5 Lauren C Bowman (Torrance, CA) - See all my reviews This review is from: Makala MK-S Soprano Ukulele I bought 12 of these ukuleles for my high school program. Great Standard Uke for Beginners

For the price, and the looks, this ukulele delivers 100%. It's beautiful, it sounds great- mine has never once had any tuning problems or fretboard problems, and it's an overall great, great ukulele for beginners. I've had mine for a year and a half and still love it. 5/5 Kayla Salewsky - See all my reviews, May 7, 2010

    Excellent starter instrument.

I am new to ukulele, and I researched them thoroughly. This one had consistently good reviews, and it did not disappoint me. It has a very sweet sound, and the strings it came with were not too "bright". It holds its tuning wonderfully, and is a joy to play. I would not hesitate to recommend this little gem to anyone looking to spend under $50. I am really enjoying it. 5/5 P. Jacobson - See all my reviews, July 10, 2010

    Good value for beginners

This gets 5 stars from me because of the price.I'm a complete novice when it comes to the ukulele (I do own a left-handed guitar that I've barely learned to play). Even though the stringing of the ukulele isn't very intuitive, because its only four strings the chords are pretty easy to learn/play, and within an hour or so i was strumming out what sounded like actual songs. Pair this with a beginners ukulele book and you'll be able to own and play a musical instrument for around 30 bucks (I bought this ukulele for $19.99).As for the quality of the ukulele, I'm probably not the best judge, but it's about what I expected for 20 dollars. I've had mine for about a week and have needed to tune it everyday before I started playing. I imagine once the strings stretch a little I will need to tune less and less. The one complaint I do have is that the fingerboard's black paint comes off on my fingers as I play. However I will say that I love the paint/color on the rest... 5/5 Joel Muller - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Great for Starters

This is a great uke to start out on. I would recommend ordering higher quality strings also, and restringing it. The strings that come with any instrument aren't very good. Once the strings are changed, you'll have to keep tuning it daily for a week until the strings stretch out and adjust. After this uke is comfy and well-adjusted, it produces a great sound and its very sturdy. A great buy! 5/5 lnebird - See all my reviews This review is from: Mahalo U-30BU Painted Economy Soprano Ukulele (Blue) (Electronics) This is a great uke to start out on. Great For the Price

This is my first ukulele, but of course I have seen many others that are probably more costly than this one. The wood is obviously cheaper, but overall it sounds exactly like a $100 ukulele. Looks nice, and stays in tune. It also comes with a bag! I would recommend this for anybody thinking about starting to play the guitar/ukulele. The price allows you to think otherwise after you see if your truly interested in playing those instruments. I personally found out that I really don't want to play the guitar, and i'm glad that I didn't spend $100 for a guitar that I could possibly give up. 5/5 AllenM - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Nice case

If you are looking for a good quality inexpensive case, this is a very good choice. It has a durable feel to it. It has a handle and a removable strap as well as a zippered slot on the outside for accessories. It works very well. 5/5 David Townsend (Rochester NY) - See all my reviews, September 24, 2009

Good little gig bag with padding, strap, and front pocket

This gig bag was just what I needed to carry around a soprano ukelele. It has a strap for slinging the instrument over your shoulder when in the gig bag, padding, and a pocket in the front for your tuner. The zipper is strong enough and it was just what I needed to carry around the ukelele to keep it protected while in transit. 5/5 Professor Challenger "The Ideator" (Florida) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) This is a great gig bag at a great price! I ordered the wrong size and they immediately replaced it.
