Learn Quickly With a Violin Tuner

  • Nov 26, 2010 from promoters(Idea Man) in Lifestyle
promoters There is only way to get the best sound from a violin. Tuner methods are very important in getting each string to provide perfect sounding notes. If you dont know how to tune your violin there is a risk that you may be responsible for breaking a string. When you tune your violin you must take care to use the pegs to adjust each string very carefully. You use the pegs by either tightening or loosening to get the pitch of a note. It is advisable to tune your violin when you have time. It is not a good idea to tune your instrument when you are in a hurry because it is likely you may break

Love the red color and ease of use

I have used a variety of violin tuners over the years. This clip-on tuner is great for tuning in a noisy area. It will read your string's note either by sound or by vibration. I thought at first that the red color would be a bit too wild. However, it is a lovely tone that blends in well with the brown color of my violin's scroll where I have it clipped. I do not even notice it's presence (by sight or by getting in my way) when I am playing the violin. Very cool tool! The price was very moderate for the technology this provides. 5/5 Sandra E. Excellent Tuner Even Works on Bass Low E

This is a great little tuner. It is just as accurate as my Boss TU-12 and it works much better than my Inteli IMT500. It works great on my uke, mandolin, guitar and bass - yes even the low E string. The colored display is very nice and seems to make tuning easier than the LCD display on the IMT500.I don't think I will use the IMT500 again unless the Snark SN5 gets broken. 5/5 Mark Druziak (western ny) - See all my reviews, June 27, 2011

    Awesome clip-on tuner

Great display, accuracy, price, and adjustable positioning. Frees me from using a pedal to tune so I can run straight into my amp and relish in the toneeeeeee! Fits on my PRS headstock.I also should note that this model is strictly a chromatic tuner, no mic and no tap-tempo metronome. But, I'm a sucker for the black coloring vs the red or blue.Highly recommended. 5/5 Jaeger - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Review by an owner of two Snark clip-on tuners

"Tunes Tighter So You Sound Better."I'm impressed with the Snark tuners. I own the Blue SN-1 for guitars and the Red SN-2 with extended range and a built in mic for all instruments. Better than I thought they'd be. Least important is the finish, but the finish is beautiful. Much better than any of the company pictures I've seen on websites. The blue and red colors are an intense rare metallic color. The Snark only weighs about 1.5 ounces with a very expertly made clamp with rubber gripping jaws. The lower jaw hinges allowing it to fit any contour. I have an Ovation with the angled head stock. The Snark clips right on and stays there. And with a ball socket on each end of the curved mounting post that connects the clamp to the face we're talking 360 degress maneuvering making the Snark perfectly adjustable for most any situation.Comes complete with a CR2032 Lithium 3 volt battery. This is the same kind that many computers use for the clock battery. They never seem to wear... 5/5 Stanley B. Huggard - See all my reviews, February 11, 2011

Best clip-on tuner I've ever used!

After trying several clip-on tuners for my guitars, banjos, and mandolins, this is definitely the best I've ever used. It works very well on all three instruments. It's accurate, the lighted display is very visible with bright colors for flat, sharp, and right-on. The head of the display swivels easily in any direction for easy viewing. It also allows tuning by both vibration or sound. The red color of the tuner's exterior makes it easy to find in my gig bag but is not obnoxiously bright when placed on the headstock. It's so good I bought two. Delivery came in about two or three days by standard shipping. 5/5 Patrick Murphree (Los Altos, CA, US) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) My Review

I bought this just to see if it would work as the reviews say. I was surprised that it really does work. I even ordered another one. Just clamp it and forget it. I use it on my ukuleles, from the soprano, concert, tenor to the baritone it works on all of them. I also like the fact that it has a metronome, no sound but just a little heart that flashes, which you can set the tempo also. I like it better that the Lanikai Chromatic & Ukulele LUT-1 Tuner. I like the fact that it is lighted so you can see the screen in low light settings. Try it you will like it.I also wanted to add that by using this you can also learn the fret board. Just choose a fret and strum or pick the string and it will show you what the note is.I will post more later on after I have used it some more and after I see how long it holds up to everyday use.. 5/5 Keithmj "Noodj" (Saint Petersburg, Fl) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Help for aTin Ear

I am not a musician, but I love "playing" the ukulele as a way to amuse myself and relax at the end of a long day. Unfortunately I have trouble tuning my instrument because I am not so blessed with a tin ear. I have trouble determining when I have my uke strings in tune. I can get close, but often an off pitch string sounds OK to me.I really never heard of an electronic tuner before I discovered the Korg CA-40 as a recommended product based on my purchasing history on the [...]. The price tag on the thing was so cheap I thought I could buy one and gamble that it was a remedy for my problem tuning the ukulele. The tuner arrived and I was amazed at how easy it was to use and how nice my ukulele sounded once it was tuned properly. The Korg CA-40 "listens" to a string and an easily read screen along with a series of lights tell me what note a given string is sounding. The device automatically shows if a string is sharp or flat so I know to tighten or loosen it... 5/5 Richard L. Steiner (OREGON United States) - See all my reviews, May 27, 2007

    really fine tuner

I'm a professional classical musician, play viola, and use this every day. I usually use it with the Korg CM-100 tuner clip, which makes it even faster and more accurate, faster and more accurate IMO than the KORG OT-12 which costs much more. I also find it more accurate than the CA-30. It can easily track one note per second, and if my pitch is very accurate so it doesn't have to hunt much, it can even zero in in half a second, so I can actually practice passages with it. Batteries last a LONG time. A truly excellent tuner. 5/5 ResearchingMom (Hopewell Junction, NY United States) - See all my reviews, April 5, 2008

    Very pleased with this tuner!

I just purchased one of these little tuners from Amazon last week. Though my guitar is low quality, (that's the next thing I'm going to buy) tuning it using only the meter mode of the tuner made it sound quite good, much better than my ear tuning. This thing is sensitive, accurate, and incredibly easy to use. What else do you want? 5/5 Chino (Oregon, USA) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Great Tuner.

The Korg CA-1 is a chromatic tuner which allows you to tune in any key. It features a quarter-inch jack for input and a "+" and "-" key for tuning in another pitch close to what you're in. Say I was in G and wanted to go to G1. Hit the "+" button a couple times, and bam it's now calibrated for that pitch. It comes standard with a small condenser mic built in so you can tune a woodwind instrument, trumpet, acoustic guitar or small squirrel. Whatever you need to tune. Super simple and easy to use, Korg has a reputation for producing the best tuners on the market. Weather it's rackmount tuning you need or the cheap-o $20 CA-1 Korg has you covered. My first one worked until it was lost during a show. I am willing to put money down that it would have worked up until now when I needed to buy another. To the review that says it's "Tinny" sounding...Dude, that's stupid. It's a tuner. Did a Good Job

I had ordered the CA1 and CA-40 at the same time, but received the CA1 first, so I used it to tune our baby grand Wurlitzer (first time ever for me to tune a piano). The CA1 worked well indicating whether a string was solid on the note (green only LED) indicated on the display, or off the note (green and red LEDs). The great thing about the red LEDs on either side of the green is they tell you whether to tighten the pin more (when red LED to left of green is lit, i.e., string too loose) or loosen the pin some (when red LED to right of green is lit, i.e., string too tight). The first pass of tuning the piano took five and half hours, but to be fair, the piano was grossly in need of a tune. The CA1 did not pick up the higher octaves or the lower octaves but if you are patient and have "a good ear," you can tune, by ear, the octaves outside of the CA1's range. The CA-40 picks up more octaves than the CA1 (see my review) which speeds up the tuning process, but the octaves outside of... 3/5 F. Easy to operate, dead-on accuracy, securely held to instrument

Customer Video Review Length:: 6:12 MinsThe Snark SN-1 Tuner is an inexpensive gadget that works perfectly. It's features include:- chromatic tuner for acoustic, electric and bass guitars- Metronome (BPM) indicator with a range from 40-250- pitch calibration from 415-466 Hz- adjustment that allows you to tune your guitar even while using a capo.In short, this is a fantastic electronic tuner. I love everything about this little guy. It has a battery saving feature that basically puts the tuner into sleep mode after 10 seconds and then turns completely off after 2 minutes of inactivity. The BPM indicator is really handy and can be operated two different ways; either by tapping the BPM button once, which then defaults to 100 BPM and can be further adjusted to the desired BPM by pushing the up or down buttons on the back of the unit to achieve your desired BPM setting. Once it's set, the red colored, heart shaped display pulses to the BPM you set... 5/5 M. Erb - See all my reviews, February 10, 2012

    Nicer than the Intelli tuner

This is my favorite clip on tuner. It's colorful display is easy to read even without my reading glasses. It's note tracking is stable and faster than on the Intelli. Nothing rattles when you play so you can leave it on your guitar. The only downside is that it doesn't fold up flat against the headstock so you may have to remove it when you put your guitar in it's case. 4/5 RobertHD - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) I don't play professionally so there is no need to buy expensive pedal tuners such as Hardwire HT-6, Polytune or Korg Pitchblack. I researched for other alternatives and decided on a "clip on" tuner. I narrowed it down to 3 - Korg AW2, Snark SN-1 & Intelli IMT-900. All 3 have a lot of positive reviews and all of them are under $20. I visited each manufacturers' website for more information and found out about the Snark SN-8. Snark claims that it's their best tuner yet. If their SN-1 can go toe to toe with the others, then I would assume that their best will do even better. I took the plunge and ordered one. I have only 2 requirements for a tuner:1. It should be accurate.2. It should be fast. The Snark SN-8 delivered on both counts and more! It came with other extras like "tap tempo metronome", "super tight tuning", "pitch calibration", "transpose features" etc. I may not have any use for all of them right now but it's nice to have them at your fingertips... 5/5 fotoguy - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Good tuner, but not super tight

Bought this Snark SN8 tuner to compliment my other tuners I have; an onboard tuner on my acoustic guitar and Intelli IMT500 clip on.The product is well made and feels solid, the two swivel ball joints allow for any position you'd like. The display looks great and clip on is sturdy and strong.Performance wise the tuner displays the sound pitch amazingly quick and with a consistent reading, never wandering around like the IMT500 sometimes can, so on both speed and precision it gets 5 stars. But on the accuracy side it's a bit lacking.Even with the tuner indicating a solid green bar, I can have both my onboard tuner and the IMT500 show the pitch being either slightly sharp or flat. Not that there's an offset of sort, but simply that the green bar tolerance is too wide kinda like +/- 5 cents or so. My other tuners are like +/- 3 cents. So there you have it, for quick tuning and if you don't care about the perfect pitch, the Snark... 3/5 I. Originally I bought another Snark, and liked it well enough. I'd seen this one on YouTube, and thought its little bobble head looked ... kinda silly. But then a friend lent me his for a couple of days, and I really liked the experience of being able to glance over and see if I was in tune. I was hooked. I'll look silly if it lets me stay in tune. The built-in metronome doesn't have a lot of volume, but it's clearly visible. You also get a little baggie containing three picks, the carry bag for the tuner, and a battery. Warranty runs for a year. Altogether, I'm very satisfied with this tuner. 5/5 Vienne - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) I'll look silly if it lets me stay in tune. The built-in metronome doesn't have a lot of volume, but it's clearly visible. You also get a little baggie containing three picks, the carry bag for the tuner, and a battery. Warranty runs for a year. Altogether, I'm very satisfied with this tuner. Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , December 5, 2012

    Not a metronome

Works well as a clip on tuner, which is why I bought it. I figured if it is a metronome also, it's icing on the cake, unfortunately I have found no way for it to be one... no indications on the unit itself, no buttons beyond power... no mention of metronome functions for the SN-5 on the Snark website... in the included manual... nor in any information I have found online. Disappointing to say the least, but I bought it because it is an inexpensive tuner, so I will keep it. 3/5 Todd S Brautigam - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Its ok

The tuner worked great while it lasted but it just broke way too easy. The hinges that connect the head of the tuner broke within a week , wouldn't necessarily recommend this unless you had a solid case for it 2/5 Joe Conkle - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Good product, but slightly out of tune

I bought this pitch pipe to tune my mandolin which is tuned the same as a violin. I typically use a digital tuner which works very well, but for me it's actually a little easier to tune it by ear. I was a little skeptical about ordering a plastic pitch pipe over some of the other metal ones. However, the insides are probably the same as others. This pitch pipe works well, although two of the notes are just slightly low. This really isn't much of an issue though - it's hardly noticeable, and I probably only noticed it after comparing against the digital tuner. If I decide it is important enough, it looks like you can open it up and adjust the tuning (it says it's hand tuned on the packaging). Or if it was really important enough, I could send it along with $3 for postage and handling to get it replaced by Performance Plus... however it only cost $3.95, so I won't be doing that. 4/5 D. This PitchPipe is Perfect!

I am very happy with this pitchpipe. I went to the fiddlerman.com Web site. I compared it to the tuner on that Web site. It was dead on! I have an electronic tuner, but I like to tune the violin by ear. It really helps with my intonation. The pitchpipe is in perfect condition, and it works perfectly. I will use it regularly to tune my violin. Thank you seller for a job well done! 5/5 Denise Borum "Denise Borum, JD" (Long Island, NY) - See all my reviews, November 28, 2011

Better quality than I would have thought.

I'm a 15+ year classical guitarist and choral singer who bought a violin to play around with. I got this pitchpipe mainly because of the price and wasn't expecting much quality to the item. I thought it would be more like a cheap children's toy, honestly, but there are sturdy reeds and the plastic is heavier than it looks. 4/5 A. Ferre (California) - See all my reviews, January 6, 2012

One of the better electronic tuner/metronomes

There are quite a few pocket sized electronic tuner/metronomes out there for musical instruments, and many of them are not very distinguished in terms of utility, functionality and quality. This Korg model is the best one I have seen, and at an affordable price. Korg is or course a leader in this field, and Yamaha's "Dr. Beat" metronomes are more powerful and flexible, but this little unit does pretty much anything a busy musician needs. The tuner is intended for instruments that make a reasonably sustained sound, so it is not a guitar tuner. I have not tried it for pianos, harpsichords and the like. I think it is best used with wind instruments or others that can produce tones os a few seconds duration not counting the decay. The tuner has a sweep needle that is part of the large backlit LCD display. You can turn the backlighting off to save battery power. There are also three bright LED lamps for Flat, In Tune, and Sharp, allowing you to tune when too far away... 5/5 P. This is all you need to know...

This tuner works great, is easy to use and should be standard for all guitarists.I got this for my new Ibanez acoustic and couldn't be happier. I was a little turned off by the price, but now realize it's worth every penny. While I know it's just a "tuner," the fact I could pull it out of the package use it instantly without trying to understand the screen, or change any settings, is exactly what I wanted. Again, this is the best tuner ever. Get it, and start jamming. 5/5 Chris Lund (Seattle, WA United States) - See all my reviews This review is from: Intellitouch PT10 Mini Clip-On Tuner (Electronics) This tuner works great, is easy to use and should be standard for all guitarists.I got this for my new Ibanez acoustic and couldn't be happier. iffy quality control

Other musicians I know say the PT10 is the one to get, but mine malfunctioned after two uses; the on-off and calibration buttons stopped working. I find that most tuners are hard to use in noisy environments, and the PT10 is no exception, but I wouldn't hold that against it. The small size is great, and when it works it's a really handy piece of gear. 3/5 janie - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Amazing

I just bought this baby to tune my acoustic guitar and its AMAZING!!! it accurately tuned every string with ease. The red to green back light is bright and clearly tells you when your in tune. This is a must for any acoustic guitarist. Built in mics are inaccurate and are disrupted by ambient noise, and because this tuner goes off vibration you are receiving and accurate reading. Though it can be used with electric guitars I think plugging an electric guitar into your standard chromatic tuner is more accurate. So if you own an acoustic guitar I highly recommend this product you wont be disappointed. 5/5 Kareem Hamdi "BeOwned" (Bergen County, NJ) - See all my reviews, March 20, 2010
