The Only Pirate at the Party

Creator: Lindsey Stirling, Brooke S. Passey | Biography & Autobiography - 2016-01-12

Publisher: Simon and Schuster

About this book
Dancing electronic violinist Lindsey Stirling shares her unconventional journey in an inspiring memoir filled with the energy, persistence, and humor that have helped her successfully pursue a passion outside the box.A classically trained musician gone rogue, Lindsey Stirling is the epitome of independent, millennial-defined success: after being voted off the set of America’s Got Talent, she went on to amass more than ten million social media fans, record two full-length albums, release multiple hits with billions of YouTube views, and to tour sold-out venues across the world. Lindsey is not afraid to be herself. In fact, it’s her confidence and individuality that have propelled her into the spotlight. But the road hasn’t been easy. After being rejected by talent scouts, music reps, and eventually on national television, Lindsey forged her own path, step by step. Detailing every trial and triumph she has faced until now, Lindsey shares stories of her humble yet charmed childhood, humorous adolescence, life as a struggling musician, personal struggles with anorexia, and finally, success as a world-class entertainer. Lindsey’s magnetizing story—at once remarkable and universal—is a testimony that there is no singular recipe for success, and despite what people may say, sometimes it’s okay to be The Only Pirate at the Party.

4/5 Chas (Colorado United States) - See all my reviews This review is from: Yamaha YEV104NT Electric Violin (Electronics) Wanted a quiet violin/fiddle. Was wearing an earplug to save the hearing in my left ear. This is great. It feels good, plays easily, and sounds great. I usually play it without an smplifier.Added a Roland Cube GX amplifier for when I want volume. Tune that for a warmer sound and love it. The amp is further from my ears and the volume is easy to control to avoid hearing damage.Use a $300 wooden bow. Clear sound, feels like an acoustic one and I can practice on silence. A couple of days ago I bought a Boss ME-25 and a 15W amp and .. oh man!! what a sound. I'm totally impressed with all the features and things i can do now with this violin.Con: A little expensive since the materials are mainly plastic. Great Quality Instrument!!

I have been playing violin for three years now and I felt it was time to take the plunge into the electric violin world. I was also looking for something relatively inexpensive since my main violin is on the higher end. This was the perfect choice.Sound - Try as it might, it just can't replicate the sound of an acoustic violin (which I wasn't looking for anyway). It can get pretty close though and all in all the sound is nice. The pickup is good, not the best quality but it does its job pretty well. As for being silent, it is quieter than an acoustic with a mute, but not completely silent.Construction/Look - The body is nice and solid unlike some of the cheap online instruments you can get. The finish is well done and the ebony pieces with mother of pearl inlays look rather nice. The inlays fall flush too, nothing sticking out at all. The pegs don't slip at all. The only thing I could find wrong with the construction was the bridge. It was a bit too high but... 5/5 Mike - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) Great violin for the price.

4/5 Note Thanupakorn (IOWA CITY, IOWA, US) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Cecilio 4/4 CEVN-2NA Solid Wood Mahogany Metallic Electric / Silent Violin with Ebony Fittings in Style 2 (Full Size) (Electronics) This is a solid beginner's instrument. Quality is decent. Detailing on the body is a little rough, but minor. The action is slightly higher than most making it a little harder to play. Tuning works just fine and the bow works like a bow should work. It is also just a hair heavier than a standard violin. Biggest complaint on this one is that I purchased the mahogany finish thinking it would be more of a wood stained look. Instead its more of a sparkly red finish. Wood grain only shows on the back of the neck. This is like due to covering up the rough woodwork job mentioned previously. Overall, I would recommend it as a beginner violin for someone looking to get into playing or something quiet just to practice on. I bought it for my 11 year old son who has been learning violin for long. It is heavy comparing it to the wooden one and it is kind of difficult to handle it with the wire but I think it will be natural in a while for my kid. We are happy with the look and the sound is magnifique. The bow is fine and light. Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , August 20, 2012
