The Only Pirate at the Party

Creator: Lindsey Stirling, Brooke S. Passey | Biography & Autobiography - 2016-01-12

Although it increased my volume a little, I was still overpowered by all the electric guitars and crashing cymbals. After one of our ... We went to the music store where she found a Yamaha electric violin with a scratch, which we got at a discount.

Publisher: Simon and Schuster

About this book
Dancing electronic violinist Lindsey Stirling shares her unconventional journey in an inspiring memoir filled with the energy, persistence, and humor that have helped her successfully pursue a passion outside the box.A classically trained musician gone rogue, Lindsey Stirling is the epitome of independent, millennial-defined success: after being voted off the set of America’s Got Talent, she went on to amass more than ten million social media fans, record two full-length albums, release multiple hits with billions of YouTube views, and to tour sold-out venues across the world. Lindsey is not afraid to be herself. In fact, it’s her confidence and individuality that have propelled her into the spotlight. But the road hasn’t been easy. After being rejected by talent scouts, music reps, and eventually on national television, Lindsey forged her own path, step by step. Detailing every trial and triumph she has faced until now, Lindsey shares stories of her humble yet charmed childhood, humorous adolescence, life as a struggling musician, personal struggles with anorexia, and finally, success as a world-class entertainer. Lindsey’s magnetizing story—at once remarkable and universal—is a testimony that there is no singular recipe for success, and despite what people may say, sometimes it’s okay to be The Only Pirate at the Party.

    Very pleased

I could not find a review that described how silent the violin was without amplification to something I could relate to. Therefore, I am writing this review. It is just a little quieter than using the practice mute on my regular violin (not much quieter). So, those of you looking for something to practice with that will not disturb others, just buy an eight dollar practice mute from Amazon. Because there is no headphone jack I bought a guitar headphone amplifier to attach to it ($40 from a local guitar store). Also noticed that I can hear my mistakes on the NS WAV very well. After a ten year hiatus from playing the violin, I am thankful that this is the case since I can correct myself. For being as heavy as the NS is, it sits well on my shoulder and I don't notice it. I have tried other electric violins that were terrible because they were heavy and did not sit well. Also note that the case the NS comes with has only one location for a bow. Overall, I am very pleased with the sound... 5/5 marry - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) Great looks, better value.

I'm not an expert violinist by any means, but as someone who has played classically for 6 years, this instrument has a great clean sound. You can always add distortion and shred to your hearts content, but having a full clean tone is what sets an expensive electric instrument apart from a cheap one.No electric instrument will ever have the mellow sound of an acoustic instrument. In fact, it's kind of a different animal altogether.. colder, more metallic are a few words that come to mind. However with the right strings and a good amp, the clean sound from this violin can be very nice and full sounding.Ned Steinberger hit a home run with this one. The design is more of a reinvention of a violin than anything. Every feature is very well thought out, and there's no extraneous ornamentation. The shape and contouring of the body is sleek and contemporary, yet still has a certain elegance only a violin can have. The body is solid wood, and you can feel the strings... 5/5 Hua Liu - See all my reviews, March 20, 2011

    Incredible

The NS Design WAV 4 violin has incredible sound and I haven't been able to keep my hands off it since it arrived in the mail. I have only a few complaints and that is:1) The violin did not arrive with a bow. I should have read the product description better, I guess. It just seems logical that there would be a bow in the case, even a cheap one, for those who may not have a bow.2) The shoulder rest, while extremely comfortable and easy to use, wobbles slightly in the bracket and it irritates me somewhat. I hardly notice it when playing, but when I try to move with it I notice it quite a lot.3) Again, with the shoulder rest, after some time the shoulder rest slides up into the violin. No matter how much I tighten the bracket the shoulder rest continues to slide, and I believe this is due to the wobbling.4) This isn't really much to do with the violin, but the case that accompanies the violin is not well made and feels very cheap to me,... 5/5 Brett - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) A great deal, despite shortcomings

First off, I'm not a professional violinist, but I have played the instrument for a number of years. Also, I've only had this instrument for a little less than a week... but I WILL keep updating this review as time goes on. Finally, I ordered this off Amazon. I cannot speak to the products received from another company. My bottom Line: To purchase this instrument at such a low price is a fantastic deal. Growing up, playing the violin, it was hard if not impossible to find a quality instrument at such a low price (I spent $125 on this instrument). Of course, this package does have some flaws. Below is an in-depth review, so let's get down to it.THE INSTRUMENTPros:- This is a solid-body electric violin, meaning no feedback!!- The instrument has a sturdy, strong feel.- The bridge, tailpiece, & chin-rest are fantastic (no issues).- The pegs were not broken or damaged in any way.- Contains three perfectly fine 1/8" jacks (Line Out,... 4/5 skimask_review - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) Good.

I took my time posting this review so I would have a decent chance to test this out.I was really torn between giving it 3 or 4 stars... Finally settled on 4, based on the fact that I use this thing almost every day. Observations in no particular order:- The supplied headphones are garbage. I didn't/don't care about them, and it didn't impact my rating.- The contact between the bridge and the electronics is critical. I noticed some noise in mine, but re-seating the bridge where it contacts the electronics cleared it right up.- The supplied strings are mediocre beyond belief. I replaced them immediately with something better (Helicore).- The unit is heavy. If I had it to do again, I might select the model that has the front shape of a violin (for the shoulder rest, etc), but is missing a chunk on the back.- The unit doesn't have the ridges of a regular violin, so some shoulder rests might not fit well (or want to stay on).- I... 4/5 PaddyOh - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) I've fallen in love with the violin all over again.

I've been playing the violin for almost nine years now, and I thought this would be a good present to myself for the amount of time I've spent on one thing, and I also got this because I've always wondered what it would be like to play an electric violin. I have a lot to say so I'll just lay it out into pros and cons (:Pros:-It's just like playing an electric guitar, but it's a violin. You can use all the amps and distorters you want, and it sounds absolutely awesome.-For the price, this is an excellent instrument. The strings are brand new, the finish on the violin is beautiful (I got mine in black metallic), and it has a great tone.-It's very lightweight. It and the case together weigh less than holding my oboe (whilst cased).-I received it within four-five days of buying it.-The case was much better than I expected. It's actually a hard case (I couldn't tell from the picture) and has a pocket for storing things on top of it and a... 5/5 Adriane Baklava - See all my reviews This review is from: Cecilio 4/4 CEVN-1NA Solid Wood Mahogany Metallic Electric / Silent Violin with Ebony Fittings in Style 1 (Full Size) (Electronics) I've been playing the violin for almost nine years now, and I thought this would be a good present to myself for the amount of time I've spent on one thing, and I also got this because I've always wondered what it would be like to play an electric violin.
