    Great Silent Violin

0 5/5 F. - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Yamaha SV-130 Concert Select Silent Electric Black 4/4 Violin This violin is great. Easy to tune. Holds a good tune. Sounds great. The bose system I added is a plus. Hits the high notes warmly.WARNING. The violin does not come with strings, violin case, bow, etc. The picture is deceiving. You have to set up the bridge and string in the strings that you must buy separately. Beginner's may have trouble doing this. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , November 5, 2012

0 5/5 eViolin - See all my reviews Highly recommended. I'm an experienced violin player (I have several decades of experience playing this instrument) and this violin plays, sounds and feels just like a regular acoustic violin. I use it a lot to practice at night so nobody hears me, it's IDEAL!Also important: the strings and bridge are regular components. So you can go to any violin shop to replace them should you need to do so at one point. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , October 22, 2010

Way too expensive for its value.

0 1/5 Shimmy Weitzhandler "Shimmy" (Israel) - See all my reviews The low rating is for the high cost - money per value - this violin should have costed $700-800 maximum. The current price is an obvious rip-off.- The sound is OK, but could be better- The plastic shoulder stem is too soft and bends all the time which requires over pressure from the shoulder leading to shoulder ache.- You must use the provided preamp, you can use your custom preamps afterwards in the signal chain, but requires carrying an extra weight. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , April 29, 2013

This review is from: Yamaha SV-130 Concert Select Silent Electric Candy Apple Red 4/4 Violin I have several years studying violin. I bought this yamaha SV-130 and the sound is amazing. It has a beautiful design, good sound and is very versatile. I have another acoustic violin the Cremona 1260, it is an excellent violin. But when I compared the sound in D string between 2 violins, in the yamaha violin it sounds a little different. But in general this is a good instrument. I bought that I hope, a very good electrical violin. The case, bow and violin arrived in exclt conditions. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , December 30, 2011

    Still unsure

Some days I absolutely love it, others I just hate it! The sound is very good as long as you keep the volume in the mid levels (as all e-violins). I have 4 problems with this violin though:1) It was very hard getting used to the chin rest, it's not interchangeable and it was very uncomfortable at first, but you learn to accommodate to it.2) The batteries shake on certain notes, creating a buzz. It's fixable though by adding a little extra padding with the batteries but I see it as a design flaw3) The saddle on the head part of the neck is a bit too tall. You either get used to that or you sand it down. I chose option A4) Its very hard to play dynamically but that is an attribute to ALL e-violins.But this violin has its pros too:1) It is aesthetically absolutely gorgeous2) The feel is great. I know when I go back to an acoustic violin there will be no bad habits from playing this instrument.I was torn between this one and the wood brand... 3/5 Werner Hoefner - See all my reviews, July 7, 2013

0 5/5 Dagny Taggart (Illinois) - See all my reviews This review is from: Yamaha SV-150 Silent Electric Practice Plus Gloss Brown 4/4 Violin Purchased on a whim wishing to learn violin on my own. Playing with earpiece is comfortable and convenient, but I also hook up to Wood Violins amp when I don't wish to be "silent". Violin sounds terrific, especially using any of the sound effects. Don't expect it to sound like an acoustic. Great violin to take on vacation since it's not affected by humidity as regular violins. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , July 1, 2011

    Great practice instrument

0 4/5 Alyosha - See all my reviews This review is from: Yamaha SV-150 Silent Electric Practice Plus Gloss Brown 4/4 Violin This is my third violin. I selected this over the SV-130 because of the lighter weight and the ability to play pre-recorded music, such as accompaniments, into the earpiece along with the violin sound. The music can be copied from any computer to the included 2 GB SD card. In fact, the only reason I didn't give 5 stars is that the manual says only to use 2 GB SD cards, and these are hard to come by now.I've played this for several days and I find it very enjoyable to play with my practice sessions going a lot longer before I get fatigued. At first I was a little bothered by the headphone and control unit wires, but using the "hold" button to keep my settings from changing, I can just shove the control unit in my pocket and it's out of the way.The sound is good and the instrument is easy to play. Get a shoulder rest such as a Kun, or the metal frame will slide off your shoulder. The violin is made in Japan, and the price is reasonable. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , December 31, 2013

Electric Violins Fender FV3 vs NS Design WAV4

Both of these Electric Violins retail at closer to five hundred dollars than a thousand, which make them both great bargains compared to anything but the really cheap curlicue plastic things one sees for sale online which I've heard aren't really worth the decent strings and bow it would take to really play them. I was shopping for an Electric Violin and liked the glossy photo images of the Fender FV3 but was almost worried about its so low price point when compared to the other Brands out there, notably NS Design Electric Violins which apparently thought that it would take closer to 3 thousand dollars to build an acceptable Electric Violin. But then there came the advent of the NS Design WAV4, also manufactured in China along with the Fender FV3, and priced to take on the Fender FV3 in an even up war where perceived quality would decide the outcome of the sales battle.Of course, NS Design is a very reputable firm, relatively ancient in the somewhat new field of Electric... 3/5 Leo Volont - See all my reviews This review is from: Fender FV-3 Deluxe Acoustic-Electric Violin - Sunburst Ebony Both of these Electric Violins retail at closer to five hundred dollars than a thousand, which make them both great bargains compared to anything but the really cheap curlicue plastic things one sees for sale online which I've heard aren't really worth the decent strings and bow it would take to really play them. Two Thumbs Up!

I had been looking at electric violins for quite some time before I settled on the Fender FV3. I picked up a Cecilio silent electric violin off Ebay last September (2012) and played around with it for a few months. I have an extensive knowledge of music and therefore was able to pick up the basics on my own quickly. However, the Cecilio was just not up to snuff when it came to stage performance. I wanted something that had a rich tone and warm character. In my efforts to look for a quality electric violin I tried the Stingray SV, Yamaha Electric Violin and the Barcus Berry AE violin, just to name a few. However, none of them matched up next to the FV3. The Fender violin was ten steps ahead of the rest, and considering the relatively bargain of a price tag, I went ahead and ordered one. When it arrived, I immediately noticed the case that it came in, it is of very good quality. The bow is mediocre at best, but that's an easy replacement. If you decide to order one, change... 5/5 Harlan Piper - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) I love this Fiddle!

I saw Laurie Anderson in concert 6 months ago, playing this violin. Incredible sound and cool design. I immediately checked the web site and found out the violin had been reduced from $4,500 to $2250, way out of my price range! Then, a month ago NS dropped the price to $599 with this WAV version. With no retail stores in Florida, I decided to get one from Amazon. Overnight shipment had it in my hands the next day, Amazon Prime rocks! The fiddle sounds great, I had been using an old Yamaha SV 100 and the sound is definitely much cleaner. And right out of the box, the fiddle was in tune; his radical tuning system is rock solid, try shipping a standard tune fiddle across country overnight and see if it stays in tune. I added a Glasser braided carbon bow and D'Addario Helicore violin medium strings and the resulting sound is incredible, I had no idea the sound could be so silky smooth. I have been playing for a while, but I have always felt that to get really good, I would need to... 5/5 Joe Hand (Florida) - See all my reviews, February 20, 2009

    Great looks, better value.

I'm not an expert violinist by any means, but as someone who has played classically for 6 years, this instrument has a great clean sound. You can always add distortion and shred to your hearts content, but having a full clean tone is what sets an expensive electric instrument apart from a cheap one.No electric instrument will ever have the mellow sound of an acoustic instrument. In fact, it's kind of a different animal altogether.. colder, more metallic are a few words that come to mind. However with the right strings and a good amp, the clean sound from this violin can be very nice and full sounding.Ned Steinberger hit a home run with this one. The design is more of a reinvention of a violin than anything. Every feature is very well thought out, and there's no extraneous ornamentation. The shape and contouring of the body is sleek and contemporary, yet still has a certain elegance only a violin can have. The body is solid wood, and you can feel the strings... 5/5 Hua Liu - See all my reviews, March 20, 2011

    Wow!

0 5/5 vohvelipaa (USA) - See all my reviews This review is from: NS Design WAV 4 Violin Amberburst (Electronics) Firstly, I am have played the fiddle for 15+ years now & have never owned an electric. With that in mind, I will say this - I love this violin. I am amazed by the incredible tone and playability of it. When trying to find an amp for it at the music stores I continually received compliments on how good it sounded. I loved playing it so much that I all but forgot about my acoustic, and when I finally got back to playing the acoustic it felt bulky and awkward. Some have complained about the shoulder rest system, but after a few weeks I actually like it better than my acoustic set up. The violin itself is beautiful (I have the red one). I did a lot of research before buying this violin, and I believe that for the price, you won't do better. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , August 5, 2011
