The Only Pirate at the Party

Creator: Lindsey Stirling, Brooke S. Passey | Biography & Autobiography - 2016-01-12

Although it increased my volume a little, I was still overpowered by all the electric guitars and crashing cymbals. After one of our ... We went to the music store where she found a Yamaha electric violin with a scratch, which we got at a discount.

Publisher: Simon and Schuster

About this book
Dancing electronic violinist Lindsey Stirling shares her unconventional journey in an inspiring memoir filled with the energy, persistence, and humor that have helped her successfully pursue a passion outside the box.A classically trained musician gone rogue, Lindsey Stirling is the epitome of independent, millennial-defined success: after being voted off the set of America’s Got Talent, she went on to amass more than ten million social media fans, record two full-length albums, release multiple hits with billions of YouTube views, and to tour sold-out venues across the world. Lindsey is not afraid to be herself. In fact, it’s her confidence and individuality that have propelled her into the spotlight. But the road hasn’t been easy. After being rejected by talent scouts, music reps, and eventually on national television, Lindsey forged her own path, step by step. Detailing every trial and triumph she has faced until now, Lindsey shares stories of her humble yet charmed childhood, humorous adolescence, life as a struggling musician, personal struggles with anorexia, and finally, success as a world-class entertainer. Lindsey’s magnetizing story—at once remarkable and universal—is a testimony that there is no singular recipe for success, and despite what people may say, sometimes it’s okay to be The Only Pirate at the Party.

    Great Silent Violin

5/5 F. - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Yamaha SV-130 Series Silent Electric Violin - Instrument Only Black Instrument Only (Electronics) This violin is great. Easy to tune. Holds a good tune. Sounds great. The bose system I added is a plus. Hits the high notes warmly.WARNING. The violin does not come with strings, violin case, bow, etc. The picture is deceiving. You have to set up the bridge and string in the strings that you must buy separately. Beginner's may have trouble doing this. Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , November 5, 2012

    Uncomfortable

3/5 Jesse (ID USA) - See all my reviews This review is from: Yamaha SV-130 Series Silent Electric Violin - Instrument Only Black Instrument Only (Electronics) This is much better quality than most other mass-produced electric violins, but there is one fatal flaw: it's too uncomfortable. The shoulder rest and chin rest are too rigid with too few options for adjusting them to fit the player. The chin rest is entirely a part of the violin, so there's no way to switch it. The shoulder rest, while made by KUN, is too difficult to adjust as well. The violin is really great other than that. The steel strings are okay quality, but they can easily be replaced. Because of they type of pickup on this, you could put on any strings you want. Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , April 23, 2015

Excellent Electric Violin (but avoid buying from Electric Violin Shop)

The product was without doubt excellent. The Yamaha SV-130 violin, black did accordingly what is stated. It's indeed, a "silent" violin. The sound with headphones or with amplifier is okay, but it's not that close to being natural "acoustic" sound. Basically, I suggest using this Yamaha electric violin for electrical and practical purpose. If you're going to perform classical music and not fiddle, I suggest buying an acoustic violin. This yamaha is meant for practice and performing (I wouldn't recommend performing classical music, such as Beethoven and such). This one is for Electric Violin Shop because apparently, they didn't like my review so they decided to delete it for their own convenience.Just for the record, I bought mine at Electric Violin Shop. I recommend buying here at Amazon or other trustworthy (with great customer service). As far as service goes, it didn't goes as great as I thought it would be. I went ahead and bought Yamaha... 5/5 Rei Chifuyu - See all my reviews This review is from: Yamaha SV-130 Series Silent Electric Violin - Instrument Only Black Instrument Only (Electronics) The product was without doubt excellent. Feels like an acoustic, plays like an acoustic, sounds great. Control box needs an aux input jack.

UPDATE: Change the strings! This Yamaha SV-250 comes to you with D'addario Zyex strings pre-installed. I assumed since Zyex strings are good quality strings that Yamaha choose them because they were a good match to the performance of the violin. Now that I have played those strings out and changed them, I can tell you that it might not be the case for everyone. I installed Larsen Virtuoso strings on mine, and the difference is very noticeable. I get far more dynamic range (much more expressive pianissimos and more forceful fortes), better color on vibrato, and a much wider variety of tonal qualities with different bowing techniques. Overall the sound is richer with an more responsive "acoustic" feel to them. This is exactly what I was looking for in a silent violin. Perhaps if you are interested in playing 'new' violin, or need a more cutting but level sound it might be useful to stick with the Zyex or go to Helicores for more volume, but I love these Larsen Virtuosos on... 4/5 LikesToEatFreshFruit - See all my reviews This review is from: Yamaha SV-250 4 String Electric Violin UPDATE: Change the strings! This Yamaha SV-250 comes to you with D'addario Zyex strings pre-installed. I am very happy with this.. A bit pricey, but a very nice instrument.

I agonized over what electric violin to get and after several weeks I decided on this one. Years ago I made the mistake of buying a beginner level guitar and then never played it again after a couple of years.. This violin I will play until it wears out. It is super lite and I really like the sound. Even the ear buds sound really nice. I plugged it into my acoustic guitar amp and it really sounds nice then. Bass, treble and volume knobs on the violin make a big difference in the sound. This is not always the case with some items.I did not buy this from Amazon, but the electric violin shop. The shipped it out quick and were very helpful on the phone. They even helped me pick out an awesome case. wow.oh sorry, back to this violin. It does make some noise, but I could easily practice in any room in the house and not bother others in other rooms. The ear buds are great. I am not sure how long battery life will be, but so far so good. Too expensive for its value - has some failures

1/5 Shimmy (Israel) - See all my reviews The low rating is for the high cost - money per value - this violin should have costed $700-800 maximum. The current price is an obvious rip-off.- The instrument shoulder stem (the one you attach your personal shoulder rest to) is made of elastic plastic bending all the time, and requires over pressure from the shoulder leading to shoulder ache- You must use the provided preamp, you can use your custom preamps afterwards in the signal chain, but requires carrying an extra weight- The sound is goodThings I'd want to see instead:- Steel or other material but harder shoulder stem- Compatible preamp - the violin should be able to work directly with ANY preamp Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , April 29, 2013
